Well it looks like every genre of movie making has got a stipulated time of onset and of withering away too. Now the latest genre that seems to be taking over the psyche of our cinematography elites is that of Bromance. Be it "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara" or the recently released "Kai Po Che!" both the movies sailed well on the yacht of bromance.
And it's not that this trend is confined till the selected few cine sorcerers of Bollywood. Now even the seasoned directors are not allowing any opportunity to slip out of their hands to experiment with the genre.
The newest to join this bandwagon of such directors is, Vasu Bhagnani. After having a joyous time with some larger then cine delights, glamorous stars, foreign locales this time Vasu stepped into the arena of realistic world of bromance for the first time. And so is the case with ace director Priyadarshan, who after trying his hand in humor returned to his patent style of cinema ( remember Gardish).
Both these iconic men of cine industry came together with Jackky Bhagnani, Priya Anand and Rajpal Yadav starrer Rangrezz. The movie opened with a meagre occupancy of 5% at the multiplexes.
After being remade in various regional languages, finally Tamil cine flick Naadodigal found takers in Bollywood too. "Rangrezz" is a the cine cantata circumscribed around the core of friendship with a tale of love knitted in the plot.
Story line with its roots embedded in the crowded basti of Mumbai, theme of "Rangrezz" narrates the story of three friends Rishi ( Jackky Bhagnani) and his two friends who risks their everything in order to unite another friend of Rishi, with his lady love. But as the frames roll ahead, the trio gets astonished when they has an encounter with the reality, that the hardship they underwent to unite the couple has proved wrecked as the two have decided to part their ways.
Keeping in view the budding trend of bromance in cine aisles and the harsh yet true realities of love and relationship, Mushtaq Shiekh has undoubtedly come up with a thought provoking story line.
With a sober blend of near to to life element, simplistic plot and humble setting sans those larger than life set ups, script of Mushtaq has got ample substance in the offering. Theme of of "Rangrezz" in not something never seen before, but still it's OK.
Throughout the narration, Mushtaq never seemed loosing his focus and kept everything knitted around the theme that he intended to showcase. Although in the Pre-interval part things look somewhat convincing, but soon after the interval the story looks leaping towards the climax with so many "missing link pop ups" raising their head.
After so many captivating cine delights, Priyadarshan once again tried his level best to emerge as an exceptional story teller, but unfortunately this time with "Rangrezz" Priyadarshan looked somewhat divorced from his signature style of cinematography. And one fact which can't be denied is that inspite of Priyan's exceptional cinematographic prowess melodrama somehow managed to poke in to the flow of the narration.
But at the same time another fact which we need to accept is that it's the directorial prowess of Priyadarshan which uptill an extent has saved the movie from slipping into the marshes of extreme boredom.
Santosh Sivan's cinematography in "Rangrezz" impressive. And as far as dialogues are concerned then Manisha Korde have done a satisfactory job, but could not succeed in penning down some memorable rhetoric chunks.
Although everything pertaining to "Rangrezz" looks somewhat well within the span of "complacency", but it could have been good if there would have been a well written screenplay. With numerous flaws and hindered flow of narration, screenplay of "Rangrezz" played spoilsport for all the components of the movie and even subdued their luster upto a great extent. In nut shell it is the imperfect screenplay of "Rangrezz" which has failed miserably in doing a thorough justice to the script. With somewhat similar style music of Sajid Wajid gives you a Deja Vu feel. Govinda Ala Re and Shambho Shiv Shambho are energetic but they completely fail in satiating your thirst for some stupendous aural delights.
After showcasing his performance in his his earlier cine stints like "Ajab Gazaab Love" Jackky looked somewhat improved, but still the young lad has to learn alot to make his mark in the tinsel town. Inspite of being main lead, Jackky looked un-confident in his approach and fails in delivering an impeccable performance.
Amitosh looked somewhat OK, but the man who deserves accolades is Vijay Verma who thoroughly succeeds in slipping under the skin of his character Pakya. Although Rajpal Yadav didn't have much to do in the movie, but inspite of that being a seasoned actor, Rajpal performed his part with utmost excellence.
To sum up, "Rangrezz" is somewhat a bland entertainer which may not succeed in quelling your thirst for entertainment.
