Sanjay Dutt goes behind the bars for 5 yrs

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt

is going through a hard phase in his life. The Supreme Court today has determined Sanjay Dutt’s case. Sanjay who was found guilty of possessing illegal arms in 1993 Mumbai serial blast has sentenced to 5 years jail term by the Supreme Court. The actor has already served 18 months in jail before and so now he has to spend 3 years six months in jail. In the next four weeks, he can appeal against the decision of the court or otherwise has to serve the jail term. A Bench of Justices P Sathasivam and B S Chauhan will pass its verdict on appeals filed by Sanjay Dutt against his conviction and sentence under the Arms Act. In 2007, total 100 convicts in the blasts case, 12 were awarded death penalty while 20 others were sentenced to life term by a TADA court in Mumbai
In this blast, Dawood Ibrahim, Tiger Memon and his brother Ayub Memon, were alleged to be the main conspirators of the blasts. 100 convicts filed appeal to the Supreme court.
In1993 Mumbai blast, 257 people were killed and 713 were injured. 13 serial explosions on March 12, 1993 in Mumbai shook the nation. Property worth Rs 28 crore were destroyed at the blast and for the first time RDX was used in the country.
Sanjay Dutt served jail for 18 months before he was released. For his release from jail, his father and congress politician Sunil Dutt went to Bal Thackery for help. After 11 years, he got a great sigh of relief when in November 2006, the TADA court said that was not a terrorist but he has been found guilty of possessing gun for self-defense.
Retired senior police officer YC Pawar, who handled the initial investigation in the serial blasts case, says: "I think there was political pressure. How is it that all the accused get convicted in one kind of case and only one is tried under a different one?"
His sister Priya Dutt, who reached the court early on Thursday morning, said after the court verdict, "I do not know what to say."
