Aashiqui 2 box office collections top Rs 42 cr, first super hit of 2013

Aashiqui 2, the Aditya Roy Kapur- and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer, has emerged as the first super hit of the year as it continues to rake in big moolah at the box office.

The movie earned Rs 8 crore nett in its second weekend, taking its box office collections so far to around Rs 42 crore nett.

Made on a budget of Rs 12 crore, the film is a remake of the 1990 hit "Aashiqui". Co-produced by Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt under their banners T Series Films and Vishesh Films, the movie has been directed by Mohit Suri.

The film had started fairly well, but sustained supremely well in the weekdays.

The romantic movie might have shared its release date with "Iron Man 3" , but it did brisk business by earning over Rs 20 crore in the first three days of its release itself.

Aashiqui 2 is scoring well on the music charts as well with its songs ruling charts. The movie's box office collections are expected to comfortably surpass the Rs 50 crore nett mark, making it the third biggest grosser of the year after Race 2 and Special 26.
