Aishwarya Rai, Amitabh Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Mallika Sherawat: What brought them to Cannes Film Festival?

What started as a film festival, essentially meant for those who had grand roles and high-ranking movies to their credit and promote, has unfortunately turned into a spectacle where celebrities are invited because their visit and stay is organized and sponsored by popular brands.
Since these brands are endorsed by celebrities, their global visibility is assured.
So while the presence of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is also the brand ambassador of L'Oreal, can never be questioned, many wonder if the festival can do well sans other Indian actors…

Why was Sonam Kapoor at Cannes?
The Kapoor lass, who wowed all with her fashion choices, was at Cannes as an ambassador for L’Oréal.

  

The actor didn’t have any films screening at the festival but she is currently busy working on three projects. “Ranjhana, which translates as Romeo. Then there is a biopic about an athlete, and a romantic comedy”, she was quoted as saying.
Sonam Kapoor was clicked while attending a photo call a day prior to Cannes Festival. She sported Anamika Khanna lace crop top and jacket. Later she wore a beautiful grey black Huemn Saree with pair of long golden Suhani Pittie.

The 27-year-old rocked an Anamika Khanna Couture white lace sari with a white blouse embellished with crystal detail. A heavily embellished long sleeved train jacket in paisley embroidery gave the sari a modern and regal touch. Sonam accessorized with Jimmy Choo heels and a lone jewel – a large pearl nose ring by Sunita A Kapoor.

  

She kick started Day 2 in a princess gown by Dolce & Gabbana.

  

While Indian actors Vidya and Sonam sported desi look, Freida brightened up the red carpet in billowy red Gucci gown.
Freida Pinto was at Cannes 2013 as the brand ambassador of L'Oreal. She was spotted bonding with the other L'Oreal ambassador, Sonam Kapoor.

  

Freida Pinto slipped into a Sanchita gown and displayed her toned leg in the thigh high slit.
