‘Aurangzeb’ falls flat! A power-packed star cast Rishi
Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Amrita Singh, Tanvi Azmi along with one of the
promising future star Arjun Kapoor too turns helpless. The prime problem
lies in no novelty in concept which was unable to lure cine-goers to
the audience.
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh informs, “‘Aurangzeb’ is
below par. It started on a sluggish note and didn't show any major
growth over the weekend. It is slightly better in Delhi-U.P. circuit. It
has collected Rs. 12.86 cr nett in its opening weekend. Breakup:- Fri-Rs. 3.92 cr, Sat-Rs. 3.96 cr, Sun-Rs. 4.98 cr. Total: Rs. 12.86 cr.”
‘Shootout At Wadala’ has taken an advantage of the situation. Trade
expert and film critic Vinod Mirani elaborates, “Atul Sabharwal's
directorial debut ‘Aurangzeb’ has not been appreciated. The opening on
the Friday was very average and the film failed to generate better
figures during the weekend collecting Rs. 12.30
crore for the opening three days. Poor oppositions benefited ‘Shootout
At Wadala’ to some extent as the film managed to collect Rs. 10.2 crore in its second week taking its two week total to Rs. 45 crore.”
Mirani further sheds light on the business of Kunal Khemu, Vir Das
and Saif Ali Khan starrer ‘Go Goa Gone’. “The zombie comedy has found
favour with limited few at metro multiplexes as the film collected Rs. 18.5 crore in its first week.”
According to the trade analyst Joginder Tuteja, ‘Aurangzeb’ wasn't
expecting a fantabulous start by any means, it was still expected that
it would pull through on a decent note with an opening of around
40%-50%. However, even this conservative prediction proved to be a bit
farfetched as the opening day was around 25%.Things didn't show any
massive jump over the rest of the weekend either since the reports were
mixed. No one termed the film as bad; it wasn't either by any means.
With a little over Rs. 12 crores being
collected in its opening weekend, this film would be remembered more for
Rishi Kapoor's terrific act than anything else.
Other release of the week, 'I Don't Luv U', he explains, was always
on a very weak wicket since even a good release was a challenge for it.
As expected, the film failed on that count itself and rest was taken
care by hardly flattering reviews as well as lack of audience footfalls.
“‘I Don't Luv U’ did poor,” concludes Vinod Mirani.
