Dancing queen Madhuri Dixit turns 46 today




If there is one actress in moderm Bollywood who combines flawless elegance and beauty with the simple charm of the girl next door, then it is definitely Madhuri Dixit – the original Dhak Dhak girl. The dancing diva turns 46 today.
Born on 16th May, 1967, Madhuri Dixit started her Bollywood career at the age of 17. She debuted in a film named Abodh opposite Tapas Paul in 1984. Soon she became the heartthrob of millions. Her energetic performance in the song Ek Do Teen in Tezaab took her to the pinnacle of popularity. Soon, she had delivered some of the blockbuster hits of Bollywood including Saajan', 'Tezaab', 'Khalnayak' and'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun'. She had shared screen space with the leading heroes including Anil Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan. She had specialized in Kathak dance and it is her dancing prowess which made her stand out from among the bevy of leading ladies. Her performance in songs like "Ek Do Teen", "Chane Ke Khet Mein", "Humko Aaj Kal Hai", "Didi Tera Devar Deewana", "Choli Ke Peechhe", "Mera Piya Ghar Aaya", and "Kay Sera Sera" are still remembered and imitated.
Madhuri was honored for her contribution to the Hindi film industry. She had starred in over 100 films and has won 5 filmfare awards. In 2008, she was awarded the Padma Shree in recognition of her contribution to the Indian cinema. One of her most dignified roles was that in Gaja Gamini where she played the part of the muse of the most celebrated Indian painter M. F. Hussain.
In 1999, Madhuri got married to an USA based cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Shriram Madhav Nene. She took a nine year long break from the film industry and millions of her fans waited and hoped for her return. She became mother to Arin and Raayan.
In 2007, Madhuri decided on her comeback to the great delight of her hopeful fans. She starred in the film Aaja nachle. The film was not received well at the box office, but Madhuri has firmly staked her claim in Bollywood. She appeared as the judge in the television show Jhalak Dikhla Ja and there was no looking back. She shifted to India with husband and sons in 2011.
Madhuri has acted in a number of films including ‘Mrityudand’, ‘Pukar’, ‘Lajja’ and ‘Devdas’. There is a lot of excitement now surrounding her item song Ghaghra opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Yeh jawani hai diwani  and her upcoming films Gulab Gang and Dedk Ishqiya.
