Hrithik to star as 'Hamlet' in Timangshu Dhulia's next

The powerful tragedies of Shakespeare have enthralled generations of readers. Now, one of his most famous plays Hamlet is going to be adapted for the Indian silver screen and appearing in the lead role is our favorite Bollywood hunk, Hrithik Roshan.
Set in the background of the families of North India, Hamlet will be filmed keeping the original storyline intact but adapted for Indian background. The film is going to be directed by Timangshu Dhulia and produced by Goldie Behl. Vishal Bhardwaj who has already adapted some of the leading plays of Shakespeare in his Maqbool and Omkara which drew heavily from Macbeth and Othello has put forward this rendition of Hamlet. So, we are expecting him to do great things with one of the best plays of Shakespeare, especially as Hrithik is slated to appear as the tragic prince. The film is supposed to start in the middle of next year.
According to a source, “Tigmanshu Dhulia and Hrithik have been holding meetings for a while now. Hrithik has loved the way Tigmanshu adapted Shakespeare’s Hamlet to fit into rural India. The filmmaker specialises in having the hinterlands as the backdrop for his films.
Goldie has already signed Hrithik who will begin work on it after he finishes Siddharth Anand’s Bang Bang and Karan Malhotra’s Shuddhi.”
This is not the first time that Hrithik has been picked to play Hamlet. Towards the end of the 1990s, he was picked for the role by producer James Killough. The film, which was to be directed Tarsem Singh who was one of the A list directors of Hollywood, after his filmThe cell. The film was titled Aditya. Killough had picked Hrithik from a photo shoot which the actor was doing in New York. “When the designer prince was on the set, it struck me how much he looked like an Indian Hamlet!” said Killough.
The Hollywood project came to naught, but apparently, Dhuliya agrees with Killough in that Hrithik has the perfect look for an Indian Hamlet. The new film is all set to be launched and we cannot wait to see Hrithik in the classic role of Shakespeare. Dhuliya has gifted some great films like Paan Singh Tomar and Saheb, Biwi and Gangster. So, the combination is bound to be exceptional.
At present, Hrithik is waiting for the release of his films Bang bang, Krrish 3 and Shuddhi.
