Priyanka Chopra building muscles to play Mary Kom

Priyanka Chopra aka PeeCee is surely par excellence when it comes to her performances. This is what most of Bollywood has to say for this 30 year old beauty ‘with brains’. With a commendable body of work in films like ‘Fashion’, ‘Kaminey’ and ‘Barfi’, Priyanka is definitely here to stay. As she prepares hard building muscles for essaying the role of legendary woman boxing world champion Mary Kom, Priyanka confesses that she is absolutely nervous about this film.

Last year when ace director and producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali announced his plan to make a film that would be inspired by the life and struggles of Mary Kom, B town was abuzz with the news of which actress would Bhansali finalize for the role. Although the showman was clear that he wanted to make a biopic on the champion, something that has not been attempted too many times in Bollywood, rumour mills spoke about cat fights between Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra regarding the bagging of this role.
Since Priyanka was finalized for this flick, she has been on an intense training schedule since the last four months gearing up for the role. Sources mentioned that Piggy Chops has been taking boxing lessons supervised by Mary Kom herself. Chopra also plans to visit Kom’s hometown in Manipur to be able to interact with her family and see how she struggled to success.
Mary herself revealed about her excitement regarding the film which is to be directed by art director turned film maker Omung Kumar. She also thinks that Priyanka is a rare talent in Bollywood and she would be able to do justice to this role. Mary, who belongs to the Kom tribal group of Manipur, shot to success after winning the state boxing championship at the age of 18. She has been a winner in more than five world championships, the latest being a bronze medal at the last Olympics. She has become an inspiration for many women across India setting an example how an ordinary home maker, a mother of twin babies, succeeded in fulfilling the dream that she dreamt of.
Knowing Priyanka’s perfect attitude towards her roles, this film will surely be another feather in her cap. For the audience, with Mary herself in a special appearance and PeeCee weaving magic again, this film will definitely be a treat on screen!
