Sanjay Dutt to spend more time in anda cell

Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt aka popular Munnabhai surrendered to the TADA court on 16th of May as he had promised. The actor had the support and sympathy from his colleagues in the film industry and his huge fan base. Sanjay Dutt has been kept in the anda cell or egg shaped cell in the super security Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai. This is the same cell where the terrorist Azmal Kasav was kept. Munnabhai has reported that he is feeling suffocated in the cell and can’t tolerate to be in it. His lawyer has also verbally pleaded to the court to shift him to other cells on humanitarian ground.
However the concerned authorities haven’t yet decided whether the actor should remain in the jail in Mumbai or should be shifted out to some other prison facility out of Mumbai. As long as a decision is not taken on the matter, Sanjay is supposed to stay in the anda cell. Commenting on the issue, Meera Borwankar (ADGP, prisons) stated that, "We will take some more time to take a call. He will not be shifted anywhere in the near future."
Dutt is convicted in the ‘Mumbai serial blast’ case that rocked the metropolitan in the year 1993. The 53 years old actor has already served a few months of his jail sentence in the jail, few years back. He has to spend another 42 months in the jail to complete his entire duration of the jail term. Initially it was thought that the actor will be kept at the Yerwada Jail, located in Pune. The Arthur Road Jail is well known for keeping dangerous criminals and terrorists. Hence, it was not imagined that a high profile celebrity, like Sanjay Dutt will be kept at the Arthur Road prison.
The authorities have kept Sanjay Dutt in the Arthur Road jail for the time being and the search is on for a suitable prison where the film star can be kept. The decision of choosing the jail for Sanjay is taking some time as the authorities are checking different parameters to choose the best option for Munnabhai.
The authorities are checking the number of prisoners, the security and overall conditions etc. of the prisons in Nagpur, Thane, Nashik, Yerwada and Taloja. One of these prison facilities will be the home of the actor for the next 42 months.
