Award winning film director Rituparno Ghosh, who passed away this morning in Kolkata, never gave in to any stereotypes as a person. The gifted Bengali director cum actor did it all.

Rituparno who died at 49 suffering a cardiac arrest, not only directed dozens of successful movies but also acted in a few.

Ghosh who raised many eyebrows during his lifetime because of his cross-dressing, started his acting career in 2010. The media and the audiences gave Rituparno quite the flak as he always played characters who were either transgenders or confused with their sexuality, some even hinted that Rituparno was only playing himself in all the movies.

But the gifted director raised the ‘taboo’ subject right after the decriminalisation of section 377 of the Indian Penal Code with his first film as an actor, Aarekti Premer Galpo in 2010.

Have a look at Rituparno’s journey as an actor.
