Get ready, Poonam Pandey's erotica 'Nasha' set for July 26 release

Get ready, Poonam Pandey`s erotica `Nasha` set for July 26 release

The trailer of controversial model Poonam Pandey's debut film "Nasha" will be launched in the first week of June and the erotica is set for a July release, says director Amit Saxena.

"The film is ready and we are planning to have the trailer launch in the first week on June. The film is set for a July 26 release," Saxena told.

This is not the first time that Saxena has wielded the megaphone for a bold film. In 2003, he wore the director's hat to make Bipasha Basu and John Abraham starrer erotic thriller "Jism".

If "Jism" was about a stormy affair between a Casonova lawyer and a married woman, "Nasha" is a passionate love story between an 18-year-old boy and a 25-year-old girl.

"Yes, it's a bold film, but it's basically a simple love story. It's a very different subject and Poonam has done a great job in the film," said Saxena.

For the role, Poonam, 22, apparently gave up her disciplined diet routine and gorged on junk food to gain weight.

The model made headlines during 2011 Cricket World Cup when she offered to go nude before Team India if they won the trophy.

"Nasha" has been produced by Aditya Bhatia.

Mamta condoles Rituparno Ghosh's demise

Mamta condoles Rituparno Ghosh`s demise

By Santa Banta News
Condoling the death of genius storyteller Rituparno Ghosh, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday said with Ghosh's demise the state has lost "a golden artist of a golden era".

"This is a very sad day for us. Bengal has lost a golden artist of a golden era. Entire Bengal is saddened," Banerjee told reporters outside the late filmmaker's residence at south Kolkata.

Director of landmark films like "Unishe April", "Bariwali" and "Raincoat", Ghosh passed away Thursday morning following a cardiac arrest, family sources said. He was 49.

He was suffering from pancreatitis.

Banerjee said in order to enable the admirers and friends to pay their last respects, his body will be kept at the state-run film and cultural centre Nandan Thursday afternoon.

"We have taken a decision to keep his body at Nandan so that everybody can pay their last respects," she said.

Ghosh's last rites will be held Thursday evening.

Bipasha gets homesick even before leaving home

Bipasha gets homesick even before leaving home

Thursday, May 30, 2013 15:32 IST
Apparently, Bipasha Basu is feeling homesick even before embarking on her two-month long shoot schedule in Ooty

Bipasha Basu is known to be extremely close to her family. The actress, who has a 55-day upcoming shoot schedule coming up in Ooty, apparently wants her family to pay her a visit to rescue her from the clutches of loneliness in the Nilgiri hills.

A source says, `Bips has a long schedule coming up without any break. Just thinking about missing her family has already made her homesick. She will be shooting non-stop without her friends and family for company. She has asked them to visit her in Ooty one by one.`

During her stay in Mumbai, the actress is known to fly down to Kolkata quite often to see her family.

The source adds, `She has also packed a lot of books and DVDs to take with her to pass time.`

Says Bipasha, `I am stocking up on scripts and my favourite TV series and movies for the next 60 days. It is the longest outdoor schedule I have ever had.`

Not without my gym

A fitness freak, Bipasha has also asked the makers of the film to recreate a portable mini gym for her in Ooty. Apparently she does not want to give her exercise regime a miss.

Why Freida opted out of her Bollywood debut

Freida Pinto walks out of her first Bollywood film after makers dilly-dally in handing her a bound script

It looks like Freida Pinto's wait for her first Bollywood outing just got longer. The actress has decided not to be part of Navdeep Singh's film in which Raj Kumar Yadav was slated to feature opposite her.

The Slumdog Millionaire star apparently informed the makers about her decision after her recent Cannes outing.

Freida, who is presently in Ethiopia shooting for a Hollywood film, has been left with a sour after-taste with what was supposed to be her Bollywood debut.

What prompted her to take the decision sources claim is the dilly-dallying over giving her a bound script, especially when the makers were keen that she woo international financiers for the project because of her Hollywood outings.

Speculations galore

Ever since the film was announced there had been buzz that it was not happening. It suffered an initial hiccup when Eros decided to pull out as co-producer. However the film's producer Vikramaditya Motwane and director Navdeep Singh were still determined to make it happen.

Says a source, `Freida was interested in the road thriller and had given her nod to her role, which was that of a detective. Even though Navdeep's earlier film Manorama Six Feet Under was not exactly a success and his zombie film Rock The Shaadi with Abhay Deol and Genelia D'Souza was stuck, she was still game to be a part of his project.`

Style of working

Adds the source, `When the story was narrated, she had asked for certain revisions which they had agreed to do. But whenever she asked for a hardbound script later, there was no proper reply. They then expressed a desire to rope in international financiers but there was no way it could happen without a bound script.

Freida then got weary of the happenings and decided not to be part of the project.`

What particularly irked her was that she is used to a certain style of working in the West, something that Bollywood is unfamiliar with.

Freida and Vikramaditya remained unavailable for comment.

No Kareena or Anushka! Hunt on for Hrithik's 'Shuddhi' leading lady

No Kareena or Anushka! Hunt on for Hrithik`s `Shuddhi` leading lady

Thursday, May 30, 2013 15:35 IST

Filmmaker Karan Malhotra is making "Shuddhi" with Hrtihik Roshan in the male lead, but he has yet to finalise the leading lady for the film and says that the hunt is still on.

This will be his second film with Hrithik after "Agneepath" remake, which was Malhotra's directorial debut and the action revenge drama did so well at the box office that it entered the Rs.100 crore club.

There were reports that the director was considering Kareena Kapoor or Anushak Sharma for the part.

But denying the reports, Malhotra said: "We have not finalised Kareena or Anushka. We are still looking for the leading lady. We shall soon make an announcement."

To be produced by Karan Johar, "Shuddhi" will go on the floors by November.

"I don't know from where rumours are coming. So far only Hrithik Roshan has been confirmed and the leading lady is not yet finalised. Probably by June mid we will finalise the leading lady for the film," Malhotra told.

Spot the difference: Ameesha has changed clothes in full public view

Spot the difference: Ameesha has changed clothes in full public view

Thursday, May 30, 2013 15:36 IST
Well, it's not so difficult, as the revised poster of Ameesha Patel's next film is identical to the first except for the actress standing out in red

The poster of her upcoming film has the actress in a red hot dress with a gun in hand. When the poster of Susi Ganesh's film starring Neil Nitin Mukesh, Puja Gupta and Ameesha was initially released, it had her in shorts and an unbuttoned shirt.

In the revised poster everything else remains the same except for Ameesha. It looks like the actress wanted to stand out from the rest. As she was wearing clothes similar to her co-star Puja, she perhaps wanted to attract attention in a brighter shade.

About her dress change Ameesha says, `As I play a character with grey shades, I felt a gun in hand and a bright outfit was necessary. The initial poster made the film look like a love triangle which it is not.` Ah.

'The Great Gatsby' story similar to Indian stories, says Amitabh

`The Great Gatsby` story similar to Indian stories, says Amitabh

Friday, May 31, 2013 13:46 IST

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan who was recently seen in an important role in Hollywood film, "The Great Gatsby" says that the story of the film is similar to the stories which we get to see in India.

"The story is quite close to the stories which we make in India. There is a poor man who is in love with this girl. He goes to war and thinking that he will not come back, she gets married to this rich billionaire. Gatsby's belief in life to create enough wealth to bring her back, " Bachchan said at an interview held with G2: The Global Gujarati editor Abhinav Aggarwal Thursday.

The film has been directed by Baz Luhrmann and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire.

Bachchan plays the role of Meyer Wolfsheim, who is Jewish and said that this is the first time probably an Indian played a non-Indian in an American film.

"Baz felt that Wolfsheim suited my appearance. But I feel that we must look above all this when we see a film. It does not matter if an Indian plays a Jewish character. This is the first an Indian is playing a non Indian in an American film, " he said.

Talking about how Hollywood and Bollywood should work together, Bachchan said that the process had already begun.

"There are lots of collaborarions taking place. We have many Hollywood corporations in India who are interested in co producing Hindi cinema, " he said.

The actor also added that American cinema gives competition to cinema world over.

"Wherever American cinema goes, it destroys the local industry there...but I feel competition is good. In India, due to cultural differences, cultural stories may not work. Hollywood is 5 percent in India, I am sure that they would want to increase that, " he said.

Talking about the style of filmmaking in both the industries he said that the amount of research done in Hollywood is a lot.

"The west is obsessed with research. It is wonderful. I don't think we spend enough energy doing that, " he said.

He also added that the west excels in promoting their films. "Hollywood is brilliant at how they promote themselves. We can't compare ourselves to them, " he said

"We have a paucity of funds, " the actor said.

"Hollywood has a lot of money. But I think we are getting there. A great amount of the younger generation is trained in America and they bring back with them a lot of knowledge of how management needs to be incorporated, " he said.

Reach Of 'Balika Vadhu' worked for me: Siddharth Shukla

Reach Of `Balika Vadhu` worked for me: Siddharth Shukla

Friday, May 31, 2013 13:47 IST

Television actor Siddharth Shukla says he did other shows, but "Balika Vadhu" has been a turning point in his career.

In the show, he plays Shiv, who is married to protagonist Anandi.

"It has been a turning point. I also feel that shows, which I had otherwise done, those characters have been loved. But the whole viewership of 'Balika Vadhu' is more than all shows of mine put together. The show has a lot of reach and that has worked for me, " he told.

Siddharth has been part of shows like "Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na", "Jaane Pehchaane Se Ye Ajnabbi", "Love U Zindagi".

Initially, he was nervous about working on the show with the cast which has already carved a niche for themselves.

He made his entry in the show as a government officer who falls in love with Anandi, who has been divorced by her first husband Jagdish, and eventually marries her.

"It had put a lot of pressure on me when I started. Also, I wasn't there from the start of the show. Everyone was set and huge in star value. I was nowhere close to them as actor. There was a lot of pressure. But those people were so welcoming and never made me feel inferior, " he said.

Shukla will be seen showing his dancing skills on Colors' dance reality show "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa" and takes it as a crash course in dance.

"I love to dance, but the flip side is that I can't dance. It took me a while to get convinced whether I should be a part of it or not, " said the actor who already has "a lot" on his plate.

"I am doing a show for which I have to shoot regularly. But then I knew that I will never get a chance to just learn dance and this is going to be an amazing crash course. Since it is a competition, you would try to do it perfectly, " he added.

Talking about his experience on the sets of "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa", the actor added: "I am not a dancer and for me, to learn the art is fun. It gives you the confidence that you can dance. But then you have to do different forms every time."

"Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa" going on air June 1.

It's so sudden. I can't believe Rituda is gone!

It`s so sudden. I can`t believe Rituda is gone!

Friday, May 31, 2013 13:50 IST

To lose a friend, a dear friend, so suddenly is not a easy thing to deal with. On hearing of of Rituparno Ghosh's sudden death all his friends in Kolkata went into shock on Thursday morning.

Sujoy Ghosh whom Ritu turned into an actor to play the Bangla detective Bhyomkesh was desperately trying to arrange an air ticket to Kolkata. `It's so sudden. I can't believe Rituda is gone!` Sujoy exclaimed before he hurriedly signed off.

Ritu's closest friend the Bangla heart-throb Prosenjit who worked in several highly-acclaimed film with his director-friend, sobbed uncontrollably. `It's so sudden. He was all right until midnight on Wednesday night. On Thursday morning he was gone. This can't be true. `

Arjun Rampal who got a career-defining role in Rituparno's The Last Lear was in transit on the way to the US with his family for a holiday when the news reached him.

After the initial response of shock and disbelief Arjun said, `Just the other day I was asked to name the people who made the biggest difference to my career and Ritu was on top of the list. He took keen interest in my work right till the end. He called me up after seeing Chakravyuha and Inkaar and praised me performance.

Before we worked together in The Last Lear he was critical of my choice of films. 'What are these films that you are doing?' For Last Lear we went through a month of intense preparation, and I could feel this change in me as an actor.

I remember I had this big important scene with Mr Bachchan and the way Ritu worked in it, fine-tuned it and finally shot it was something else. He would push me beyond the boundaries to make me realize my potential.

Within a year I've lost two people from whom I've learnt a lot. First, Ashok Mehta and now Rituda. Sad. My holiday is ruined. My wife is trying to console me saying he went because he had to go. But why should I not feel sad?

I am glad I feel a sense of loss when I lose someone who matters to me. If I didn't I'd be convinced I am totally desensitized. I regret not meeting Rituda for a long time. `

The shock was palpable even in Mumbai. Jackie Shroff who had worked with Ritu in Antar Mahal said, `Rituda's going is a loss to the entire film industry. We've lost an invaluable artiste. `

Raakhee Gulzar who worked with Ritu on the whodunit Shubo Mahurat recalls him fondly. `What a talented boy!And so driven. He was specially good with his female characters probably because he was in touch more with his feminine side. I had a wonderful time working with him. Why did he have to go so early when his best was clearly in front of him?`

Manisha Koirala who worked with Ritu in Khela and Antar Mahal was stunned on getting the news in New York.

Says Manisha, `I'm extremely sad to hear Rituda is no more. He was a sensitive director and a really nice person. I loved working with him. In fact his film unit had become family to me. Indian cinema has lost an able director. It's a great loss for all of us. I wish his soul journeys into bliss. `

R Madhavan who has done a quirky film called Sunglass directed by Rituparno remembers the director most for his erudition. `He knew so much about cinema, art and life. I spent hours discussing these with him. Rituda was brimming over with life. It's hard to believe he's gone!`

Satyamev Jayate' tempted Vishakha to do 'Ankur Arora Murder Case'

Satyamev Jayate` tempted Vishakha to do `Ankur Arora Murder Case`

Friday, May 31, 2013 13:51 IST

Actress Vishakha Singh, who will be seen in Vikram Bhatt's "Ankur Arora Murder Case", says chat show "Satyamev Jayate" tempted her to take on the medical drama.

The actress feels nowadays focus is more on earning comfort than saving patients.

"Last year, when I was watching 'Satyamev Jayate' and how Indian Medical Association opposed Aamir Khan, I felt sad. Even though being a doctor is a noble profession, there are doctors who forget that there is a living being right in front of you and you have to take greater responsibility, " Vishakha told.

Produced by Vikram Bhatt, the film revolves around a child who dies on the operation table due to medical negligence.

The actress accepted director Sohail Tattari's film as she found the story simple yet impactful.

"When Vikram brought the film to me, I was confused as he is known for his horror films. I liked the fact that it's a simple, non-complicated, and competent film. That is what attracted me, " said the actress who will be seen with actors like Tisca Chopra and Kay Kay Menon in the film.

"If it was any other role, like a lawyer and RJ, one still knows. The entire language here was different. For me, my best friend is a doctor and have five uncles who are doctors and I also watched a lot of 'Grey's Anatomy', which helped. Also, we had a doctor on the sets, which helped too, " she said.

Other then her Hindi projects like "Hum Se Jahan" and "Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey", Vishakha has also been a part of southern projects like "Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya", which was a huge hit.

She says that offers for southern films came her ways when she was free so she thought that it was better to work.

"I was happy about it, so I continued. The focus is on Hindi, but since my southern film was a hit, it is my responsibility to do more. Now I am trying to balance it out, " she said.

The actress seems to have a busy 2013 with "Fukrey" and "Bhajathe Raho" releasing this year. She will also be making her debut Malayalam cinema with "Motor Cycle Diaries".

"It is very difficult to balance all the things. Eventually, I'd want to do just two films a year. But because I am starting out, there is a pressure of doing as much work as possible.

"If I had my way, I would do a 'Kill Bill' or a Basanti from 'Sholay'. I want nice meaty roles where you can't replace me with anyone else. But you can't have what you want. I am trying to pick the best from what I am getting, " she said.
