SRK envious of Arjun Rampal

SRK envious of Arjun Rampal

A birdie chirps to say that Shah Rukh Khan was not too pleased about one-time buddy Arjun Rampal hogging all the attention at the recently concluded Marrakech film festival in Morocco

King Khan was conspicuous by his absence at Arjun's 40th birthday bash during the festival which had several B-Town folk in attendance.

Buzz is that SRK felt there was more talk about Arjun's presence at the fest than him!

But with Arjun having a quirky bash with a voluptuous belly dancer popping out of his birthday cake, for whom would tongues wag more? Hmmm...

Call me Kareena Kapoor-Khan: Bebo

Call me Kareena Kapoor-Khan: Bebo

Kareena Kapoor-Khan says she's finally getting the hang of her new 'beautiful' surname

It all started with Aishwarya Rai when she decided to go ahead and add Bachchan to her surname. After tying the knot with Saif Ali Khan, the latest entrant to this fledgling club in B-Town is Bebo. Earlier, Bollywood actresses usually chose not to tweak their established screen names post wedding. Needless to add, times are indeed changing.

In fact, Kareena Kapoor-Khan quite often ends up insisting others to use her updated conjugal identity. `I keep telling people to please address me as Kareena Kapoor-Khan. Besides, that's my name now, isn't it?

Although I've not converted, Saif is my husband and it's a beautiful surname to have,` states the actress with a glint in her green eyes.

On being asked about the positive response she received for her latest item in Dabangg 2, Kareena gives credit to its choreographer. `Farah (Khan) has done a fabulous job with the whole routine. I've never performed a pelvic thrust before in my entire career so yes, I was looking forward to an encouraging reception. The tune is massy: something tailor-made for the aam janta!`

Kareena will start shooting for Prakash Jha's Satyagraha next month. However, she says she doesn't have a dream role as such. So, which actors does she look up to? `I love Meryl Streep and Angelina Jolie. They are not only wonderful actresses but also strong personalities. In my filmi career, I think I've done almost everything but I want to continue acting till I'm 80!`

For Neha, style has always been about being confident

For Neha, style has always been about being confident

When it comes to stylish women in Bollywood, one name that definitely springs to mind is that of Neha Dhupia

The actress usually turns up looking uniquely stylish at social dos. When CS asked Neha what being stylish means to her, she said, `For me, style has always been about being confident.`

And how much do clothes contribute to that confidence? `Clothes and accessories can do very little if a person is not brave enough to feel better about himself or herself.

You create your unique style. At least that's what I believe,` she said. Seems like Neha's one brave gal then!

Salman dances to Akki's tunes

Salman dances to Akki`s tunes

Salman does everything according to his own whims and fancies. And when it comes to living life, Sallu's mantra has always been My way or the highway!

However, on his birthday on Thursday, the actor made a rather strange exception. Sources present at his birthday celebration in his Panvel farmhouse say the actor apparently danced on some popular music tracks from Akshay Kumar's films.

The informer says, `The house was lit up like never before as it has been an exceptional year for Salman. However, when it came to shaking a leg on the dance floor, he chose some popular numbers from Akshay Kumar's films like Rowdy Rathore, Housefull 2 and Khiladi 786.`

The source adds, `It was only when the party was coming to an end that songs from Dabangg 2 were played.`

Bollywood's makers and breakers of 2012

Bollywood`s makers and breakers of 2012

As the year draws its final breath, HitList takes a look at the year's biggest headliners in B-Town

King Khan's Slapgate
The year began on a bumpy note for Shah Rukh Khan who was involved in a fracas with director Shirish Kunder at Sanjay Dutt's bash for Agneepath in January. Kunder had been provoking King Khan by making uncharitable remarks against his film RA.One. Later however Kunder and his wife Farah Khan along with Sajid Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala met SRK and sorted out the issue.

In May came SRK's infamous squabble with the security officials at the Wankhede Stadium. The actor, who owns Kolkata Knight Riders, was allegedly accused of misbehaving with the security personnel for not allowing his entourage to enter the ground.

However, SRK defended himself saying that the security personnel manhandled the kids with him, including his daughter Suhana, which led to the altercation. SRK was also linked with Priyanka Chopra. It is said to be the reason behind SRK's best friend Karan Johar and Chopra's cold war.

No more Tees Maar Khan
Shirish Kunder's Joker had lead actor Akshay Kumar missing from its film promotions. Akki vowed never to work with Shirish and his wife Farah Khan again.

SRK v/s Ajay Devgn
Shah Rukh Khan's bete noire Ajay Devgn took legal action again Yash Raj Films over the release of Khan-starrer Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The film ran into trouble with Devgn claiming that his Son Of Sardar was not getting enough screens due to the dominant position of YRF with the distributors, an allegation denied by the production house.

Kajol was not invited to the premiere of Jab Tak Hai Jaan though everyone associated with Yash Chopra's production house was on the guest list. Devgn admitted that she was skipped due to his tussle with the production house.

The Sanjays patch up
Buddies Sanjay Dutt and Sanjay Gupta fell out over Dutt's allegations of financial bunglings within the production company which the two had partnered. But the two patched up at Amitabh Bachchan's 70th birthday bash.

With the change of equations between Sanjay Dutt and Sanjay Gupta, it looks like it was sunny times for Kangna Ranaut too. Dutt and Maanayata also patched up with Kangs with the actress being invited to the Dutt household's Mata ki chowky.

>> Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's weight issue became an object of controversy. Even though on a maternity break, she hogged headlines earlier in the year due to her post baby flab.

>>Saif Ali Khan's name was riddled with controversy when he got involved in a scuffle with an NRI businessman Iqbal Sharma at a South Mukbai hotel restaurant. He was at dinner with Kareena and his friends when Saif allegedly hit Iqbal after he asked the actor to tone down the voice levels from his table. Saif denied hitting the man first and said he was defending himself after Iqbal came on him. Both parties have filed cases against each other.

>> The scandal involving veteran star Rajesh Khanna and Anita Advani. Anita, who claims to be Khanna's live-in partner, approached court after his death in July, saying Khanna's son-in-law Akshay Kumar and wife Dimple Kapadia were denying her share in the property.

>> Barfi!, India's entry for the Oscars, landed in trouble with critics who accused that the film was copied from various Hollywood movies. Director Anurag Basu said it was only a tribute.

Wedded bliss
B-Town stars who tied the knot include: >>Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza in February
>>Esha Deol with businessman Bharat Takhtani in June
>>Ram Charan Teja and Upasana Kamineni in June 14

>>Vidya Balan with Siddharth Roy Kapur in December

Bollywood is all set to rock you in 2013

Bollywood is all set to rock you in 2013

What's in store at the movies in 2013? Fresh pairings, directors finding new muses and films with heart

2012 HAS been annus mirabilis for Bollywood with 15 certified hits and an unprecedented, unparalleled eight films vaulting past the Rs 100-crore hurdle.

So, can 2013 beat this beefy benchmark? Can Bollywood tabulate even higher centuries next year? Buoyed by an omnipresent boom time, the Hindi film industry is certainly going to try besting last year, what with several big-name directors and actors having thrown their hats into the ring for 2013.

Megastars teaming up with money-spinning filmmakers to pursue familiar box-office algorithms yield the most anticipated films of 2013. Yash Raj's Dhoom 3 will continue its eponymous franchise, with a major star (it's Aamir Khan this time) once again playing antagonist to lawmen Jai and Ali (Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra).

The heroines have always had one brief - dhoom machale - and now it's up to Katrina Kaif to out-sizzle Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and company.

It's sequel time for Hrithik Roshan too; he will bring in Diwali with a bang with Krrish 3, his fourth outing with father Rakesh Roshan after three straight blockbusters. To make himself ship-shape for this F/X-and-stunt-laden thriller, Hrithik got the best trainers from UK and `underwent a 10-week transformation,` according to the actor.

But what he says he is relying on most is `the fabulous script; everything else - colour, songs, item songs, action - is decoration.` While Priyanka Chopra will be abetting Krrish, Vivek Oberoi will be battling it out as a `mazedaar supervillain`.

Another sequel, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2 will decide whether director Milan Luthria can pull off a hat-trick after the success of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai and The Dirty Picture. This Akshay Kumar-Sonakshi Sinha-Imran Khan starrer is slated for an Eid release, a crowd-pulling holiday that has done wonders for Salman Khan of late.

While there's no confirmation yet on whether Salman's breathlessly awaited next (buzz is it's Radhe, a remake of a Punjabi film) will keep his date with Eid, Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone's first-ever collaboration with box office behemoth Rohit Shetty in Chennai Express is slated for 2013. This UTV-Disney thriller details SRK's character's journey from Mumbai to Rameshwaram.

Thirty years ago, the high-decibel revenge drama Himmatwala made the return journey from the South to Mumbai, and became a blockbuster. Sajid Khan is now readying `a homage to the old Himmatwala` which stars Ajay Devgn. With characteristic grandiloquence, Sajid says, `As a child, I have watched the film 36 times in the theatre! Now I want my audience to leave the theatres with a smile and a 'mazaa aaya' feeling. I know Himmatwala will make 100 crores in the first week itself.`

It's not only about making a mark at the box office for our big names. Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Raju Hirani and Aamir try to make a perceptive comment in Peekay (slated for December), Akshay teams up with Neeraj Panday (of the widely acclaimed A Wednesday fame) for Special Chabbis and Prakash Jha readies his Amitabh Bachchan-Ajay Devgn starrer Satyagraha, which presents the middle class movement to renegotiate democracy. Unsurprisingly, Satyagraha is to be released on August 15.

The multiplex boom continues to afford filmmakers a chance to cater to an audience more welcoming of change; and many directors are playing for something deeper even without the benefit of having a megastar fuel their film.

2013 will witness the release of Vishal Bhardwaj's wacky-titled Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola, Sudhir Mishra's indictment of sexual harassment, Inkaar, Rajkumar Gupta's Ghanchakkar (which Emraan Hashmi calls `a dark comedy with suspense`), Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (`My homage to the sports of the country,` as the director puts it) and Shoojit Sircar's collaboration with John Abraham, Madras Cafe.

After winning reviews for Udaan, Vikramaditya Motwane will return on July 5 with Lootera, set in the 1950s. The film has been delayed by inclement weather and injuries but the cast can't stop gushing. Ranveer Singh raves, `I was in tears by the end of the narration; it's a golden script.`

Ranveer will keep the romance flag flying high with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gujarati drama Ram Leela while Ranbir Kapoor will lead the charge of the bright brigade with Ayan Mukherji's Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and Abhinav Kashyap's Besharam.

As with any other year, 2013 has a plethora of male-oriented actioners such as the sequels Race 2 and Shootout At Wadala but unfortunately, there are all too few women-oriented films on the anvil.

There is the National Award-winning director Vikas Bahl's Kangna Ranaut-starrer Queen, Madhuri Dixit's latest hurrah, Gulab Gang, and maybe the Mary Kom biopic with Priyanka Chopra (shooting has yet to begin). When will Katrina, Kareena Kapoor-Khan and Vidya Balan green-light projects headlining their names first and foremost? What price gender parity?

Two tangy
How would the world have known that sodium (Na) plus chloride (Cl) produces salt unless someone had the gall to do a laboratory test with the two ingredients? 2013 will witness the coming together of several new star pairs and director-actor permutations, all in the hope of sparking off a novel chemistry.

Anushka Sharma's full-of-beans exuberance will hopefully contrast well with Imran's understated charm in Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola. She says, `Imran and I are working together for the first time in Matru... It's a fresh pairing but I had never thought we would have such a different look in the film.` The normally dapper Imran sports a thick stubble and has done akhada-style exercises for the film, prompting Anushka to comment, `I think Imran looks hot in this film.`

Later in the year, Anushka will also attempt to ignite chemistry with Imran's mamu, Aamir, in Peekay. Another heroine who can now claim to have worked with both uncle and nephew is Katrina, who did Mere Brother Ki Dulhan with Imran in 2011 and now pairs with Aamir for the first time in Dhoom 3.

Height issues notwithstanding, Aamir and Katrina's long-burnished star appeal should prove a combustible combination for a guns n' gals thriller like Dhoom 3.

Dhoom 3 will complete Katrina's trilogy with the Khans but Sonakshi is just starting with the Khan roster. While Akshay and Sonakshi have already brushed their broad shoulders twice, making Once In A Time In Mumbaai 2 their third outing together, it will be interesting to see Sonakshi paired in the same film with a younger hero, Imran, for the first time.

Sonakshi is rapidly moving on to stars closer to her age. Choreographer-turned-director Prabhu Deva has already made Sonakshi swivel successfully to his dance steps in Rowdy Rathore, and in his next film, Namak, she will have rubber-boned Shahid Kapoor help her perform some cartilage-defying moves.

Ranveer will be part of two new jodis in 2013. In Lootera, Sonakshi and he will complement each other's earthy appeal and Bhansali's Ram Leela will cash in on Ranveer-Deepika's aerosol fresh team.

Sonam Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar both stay studiedly out of the rat race and their low-key combination should certainly perk up Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The only hitch is that since the film is a biopic on the Olympic runner Milkha Singh, Farhan may spend more time in the maidaan than with the maiden.

Shah Rukh's first alliance with Rohit Shetty of the Ajay Devgn camp should pique interest. Shetty's popcorn cinema is of a different variety from the Aditya Chopra-Karan Johar brand but it also hits the bullseye with unerring accuracy.

After Prakash Jha worked his magic with beautiful beanpole Katrina (whose acting abilities were under the scanner), he will now be working with Kareena whose acting creds have albeit long been accepted. She plays a committed journalist. Can Jha's film help lay the bedrock for Kareena's post-marital career?

And can the imaginative Bhansali spur the pragmatic Deepika (love the way she handles her controversies) from middle-level stardom to the upper echelons with Ram Leela? Will this new cocktail be an upper or a downer? Can her performance burn with a newer, purer flame? The stakes and expectations are high. Because Sanjay Leela Bhansali is the closest we have to Hollywood filmmakers during the Golden Age of Women's Directors.

Neophytes 2013
A bunch of bright-eyed arrivistes are added every year to the Hindi film industry's list of stars. These youthful roisterers hope to prove their drawing power in a wide spectrum of films.

2013 will witness two major Southern stars aiming for a breakthrough. In the 1990s, Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi had a few Hindi film successes with Pratibandh and The Gentleman (opposite Juhi Chawla). Now, his son Ram Charan Teja seeks to carry over his immense success in Telugu films into Bollywood with the Apoorva Lakhia-directed remake of the 1973 blockbuster Zanjeer.

He is paired opposite Priyanka Chopra and pitted against Sanjay Dutt. The original crystallised Amitabh Bachchan's angry young man image and made him a phenomenon. Teja should be half as lucky.

There's more to the lean-and-wiry Dhanush than being the Kolaveri di singer-actor or Rajinikant's son-in-law. Dhanush has a major fan following for his Tamil films and will now be seen in Tanu Weds Manu director Anand Rai's rom-dram Ranjhana opposite Sonam. Sameera Reddy, who has acted in several major Southern films, says authoritatively, `Dhanush is sheer talent.`

Also coming out of the gates is Sushant Singh Rajput who will try to emulate Shah Rukh's trajectory from TV to films. The Pavitra Rishta actor's TV success was, however, not what clinched Kai Po Che! for him. His film's producer Siddharth Roy Kapoor states, `In Sushant we found our story's character Ishaan.

Director Abhishek Kapoor made sure that his role is actually very different from his TV image. Sushant trained in cricket, worked on his body and attended many workshops to become Ishaan. But it does help that he has a huge fan base from his TV stint.` Kapoor confidently adds, `His popularity will only increase after they see his performance in Kai Po Che!`

After an undistinguished turn in 2010's Love Breakups Zindagi, Pallavi Sharda is lucky to have bagged Abhinav 'Dabangg' Kashyap's Besharam opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Similarly, South star Tamanna acted in a now forgotten Hindi film some years ago but hopes to hit a glam slam with Sajid Khan's Himmatwala opposite Ajay Devgn.

And then there is grand dame Asha Bhosle on track to be the oldest newcomer in Bollywood. She may have done a few small roles in the 1940s but the legendary singer will now take on the title role in Mahesh Kodiyal's Maaee. Says Kodiyal, `Ashaji is definitely a genius because in spite of acting for the first time, she pulled it off so beautifully.`

Deepika working round the clock

Deepika working round the clock

Behind all the glitz and glamour goes a lot of hard work and dedication, Bollywood has some of the finest actors who work round the clock to entertain their audiences. Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan are among the few names that keep up with the grueling shooting schedules and stay focused to deliver their best.

Looks like Deepika Padukone has taken inspiration from the senior actors, as the workaholic actress has been working nonstop without taking any breaks even in this festive season. Contrary to all her linkup rumors, Deepika has been busy shuttling between shooting for Chennai Express with Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's next Ram Leela.

She is also personally looking into the marketing and promotions of her upcoming film Race 2. In fact, sources reveal that she will be working on her birthday which is on the 5th of January. With that kind of dedication, Deepika Padukone has definitely joined the league of the hardest working actors in Bollywood.

In 2013, Deepika fans are in for a treat as they can look forward to watch her in a number of films including Race 2, Kochadaiyaan where she stars opposite Superstar Rajnikanth, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewaani and Ram Leela. We wish Deepika all the luck and as the saying goes, 'Hard Work Does pay off'!!

Limits of yummy-mummy Chitrangada

Limits of yummy-mummy Chitrangada

Actress Chitrangada Singh, who features in "Inkaar", a movie which deals with sexual harassment at the workplace, says she knows where to draw the line when it comes to doing bold scenes.

"As long as I am comfortable with my director and the co-stars, I am open to doing the bold scenes. But I do have my own limits and I know where to say no," Chitrangada told in an interview.

"If you are not involved in a scene, your discomfort shows on screen and it makes you look stupid," she added.

As an actor, Chitrangada has opened up to new things - commercial Bollywood movies as well as item numbers.

Chitrangada, who has earlier featured in off-beat films like "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" and "Yeh Saali Zindagi", entered the commercial movie zone with "Desi Boyz". She recently also did an item number in the movie "Joker".

"I am more comfortable dancing now than before. Dancing is a lot of fun. I am open to doing item numbers. Let's see if any interesting thing comes up, then I might do it (again)," she said.

Chitrangada started her acting career with Sudhir Mishra's "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" and later featured in "Kal: Yesterday and Tomorrow", "Sorry Bhai!", "Basra" and "Yeh Saali Zindagi".

In "Inkaar", she shares the screen space with Arjun Rampal and she guarantees this is Arjun's best work so far.

"Arjun is a very nice human being. He made me feel very comfortable and that energy translates on screen. He is extremely professional. This is Arjun's best work that I have seen," she said.

"Inkaar" is an 'A' certificate movie, but Chitrangada maintains she is choosy with her scripts.

"Yes I am choosy about my scripts. I want to do good roles that suit me. I want to choose the best because I have waited really long to be part of good films. I should be convinced with my role," she said.

She isn't even worried about the competition among Bollywood actresses.

"I don't know about competition, I only choose to do good work that I like," Chitrangada said nonchalantly.

She also says box office numbers don't matter as long as she gets a good film.

"Numbers don't hurt at all. Everybody wants their film to earn as much money, but at the same time, I am greedy to be part of good films. (Of course) I would be happy if my film collects Rs.100 crore," the 36-year-old-said.

Playing Bijlee was not that easy: Anushka

Playing Bijlee was not that easy: Anushka

For Anushka Sharma, playing the role of Bijlee in "Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola" was far too complex than the roles she has done till now, and even left her mentally drained.

"So far the characters which I have played have been very strong girls so I cannot play them in a relaxed way. I played them the way they were written. Bijlee is one of the most complex characters I had to play," Anushka stated.

"My character is saying something and means something else, you have to read between the lines. It is a complete dichotomy. For me, the way she (Bijlee) was, was not something which I could relate to naturally. I just could not relate to her. She is very vague and vain," she added.

Written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, "Matru Ki Bijlee..." also features Imran Khan and veteran actor Pankaj Kapoor. It is due to hit screens Jan 11.

But being a Vishal Bhardwaj film, Anushka says she was prepared for the unexpected.

"Vishal Bhardwaj's films are not obvious. That is what I had to learn. Human beings are flawed and he works in this grey area. When a film is not very verbose, it is the in-between spaces you have to fill, which becomes difficult," said the 24-year-old.

"Mentally it was draining. After a few days, I sent a message saying I don't think I can do this. Everything which I have done has been simple till now. Here there are too many layers. I would have spoilt it if I had played it linear," she added.

However, the actress agrees she has learnt a lot during the course of the film.

"When I started shooting this film, I saw the world in either black or white. After doing this film, somewhere I started accepting things more, and became less judgmental. I started to sympathise with people. Everyone has made mistakes in life and acceptance of that was what I learnt in the film," said Anushka, who made her Bollywood debut with 2008 film "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi".

"Vishal Bhardwaj has seen a certain kind of life. He has seen so much which you and I won't even think is true, because we have lived in big cities. He has learnt a lot from life and that's what you see in his films," she added.

Kareena follows Aishwarya’s footsteps

Kareena Kapoor tied the knot with her long time boyfriend Saif Ali Khan in October and she appealed her fans to address her with her beautiful new name, Kareena Kapoor Khan.
In the past, actresses stick to their original screen name despite getting married but today the scenario is altogether different. It all started with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. After getting married to Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya changed her surname to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Bebo also wants to do the same.
Kareena Kapoor Khan insists others to use her updated marital identity. "I keep telling people to please address me as Kareena Kapoor-Khan. Besides, that's my name now, isn't it? Although I've not converted, Saif is my husband and it's a beautiful surname to have," states the actress.
Post her wedding; Kareena received a grand response for her item number ‘Fevicol Se’ and she gives credit to choreographer Farah Khan for that, "Farah (Khan) has done a fabulous job with the whole routine. I've never performed a pelvic thrust before in my entire career so yes, I was looking forward to an encouraging reception. The tune is massy: something tailor-made for the aam janta!"
Kareena who is on a break will start shooting for Prakash Jha's Satyagraha next month. However, she says she doesn't have a dream role as such. So, which actors does she look up to? "I love Meryl Streep and Angelina Jolie. They are not only wonderful actresses but also strong personalities. In my filmi career, I think I've done almost everything but I want to continue acting till I'm 80!"

Apoorva Lakhia saves David Dhawan’s life

Director David Dhawan and his family can’t find any words to thank director Apoorva Lakhia who proved messiah for David on Friday night. On Friday, at Bunty Walia’s wedding reception, the director left home after taking insulin but four to five hours passed, his stomach was empty and he forgot to take any sweets. Following which his condition deteriorated and he collapsed.
Apoorva Lakhia who was present at the party the very moment rushed David Dhawan to Lilavati hospital. Back home on Sunday morning, Dhawan told TOI, "Apoorva was wonderful. My family and I can't thank him enough for what he did."
Reliving the Friday nightmare, he said, "I went to Bunty's party after taking my insulin injection for my diabetic condition. But I forgot to take the compulsory sweet thereafter. Four to five hours passed and my stomach was empty. Suddenly, I started shivering and broke out into a sweat. My wife arrived after ten minutes. In the meantime, I was fed some chocolate. At Lilavati tests were done immediately. All is well now."

Apart from Apoorva and Kunal, no one came forward to help out David at that night. Needless to say, David and his family were very much thankful to Apoorva.
It is heard that his two sons will be visiting Apoorva’s house to thank what he has done for their father.

Naomi Watts smitten by Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan’s TV debut ‘Satyamev Jayate’ has not only stirred the entire India but the show has also left a great impact in the West and one of the Hollywood celebrities who is highly influenced by the show is Naomi Watts. She expressed her ardent desire to participate on Aamir’s show ‘Satyamev Jayate’ and create awareness about the rehabilitation of Tsunami and earthquake victims.
“I would like to participate in Aamir Khan’s show, which is a fantastic platform, to create awareness about the rehabilitation of Tsunami and earthquake victims. It’s been eight years since this tragedy affected so many lives and many are still suffering. There is a sense of urgency required to create awareness for these victims. And, I was told that Aamir Khan’s show has a huge following in India; I think that’s one way to induce people to come forward and help in their own way,” says the 44-year-old, who will be seen playing the role of a real life Tsunami survivor, Maria Belon in her new flick, The Impossible.
The Impossible is based on the true story of a Spanish family who faced the natural disaster in 2004 while vacationing in Thailand. The film will be shown in Indian theatres this week and Watts is planning to come to India to promote her new flick and at the same time meet the real life Tsunami victims here.
Watts also reveals that she is a huge fan of sitar legend late Pt. Ravi Shankar, and feels sad that she could not meet him when he is alive.
“A couple of years back, one of my close friends, a huge George Harrison fan, insisted that I listen to one of Pt. Ravi Shankar’s compositions. Even though I had no knowledge about sitar music, I was mesmerised by his composition. That day onwards, I had always been looking for a chance to sit in the audience and watch Pt. Ravi Shankar perform. But when I read about his demise, I realised that I will never be able to see his performance,” she says.

Akshay Kumar will train her daughter in martial arts

Rising protests in the Delhi gang rape case and the amount of rape cases increasing in the country each day has had a tremendous impact on the minds of the Indian parents. People, especially women have started feeling that the world is not a safe place anymore. This Christmas, the chief minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar has raised his voice in favor of the protests led against the protection of women.
He urged the women and girls of India to learn martial arts in order to increase her own security. This will be able to help the girls defend themselves. Famous Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has put forward his support for Nitish Kumar’s decision and has decided that he would train his own daughter, Nitara, in various forms of martial arts when she will grow up. The daughter is just a newborn right now.
Akshay is of the view that self defense is the dire need of the hour for all women if they want to stay safely. He has said that when his daughter will turn the right age, he will take the responsibility himself to train her in martial arts. It is essential that every woman in India and across the world should be trained for self defense. The actor talked about this point, adding that each and every father of the country, who wants to safeguard his daughter, must do the like for her.
The fact that the mental strength of women is much more than the men is sure. Since they already are mentally stronger, the country should take up the challenge of making them physically strong as well. This will make them self dependant.
Akshay himself is a trained martial arts actor. He was won a black belt in India for Taekwondo. He went to Bangkok to further study martial arts. There he took detailed studies on a combat sport of Thailand, Muay Thai. Akshay has said that the proclamation by Nitish Kumar is absolutely right. He himself wanted to do something of the same sort since many years. The actor has been trying to include martial arts in the curriculum of various schools in India. He says that it is necessary to be trained in army for every civilian of Singapore. Hence, in India too girls should be trained in some form self defending technique.
Currently he is also doing a big budget movie, which focuses on combat sports. It will start shooting in the coming year.

Salman Khan praises SRK in Bigg Boss 6

The entire nation knows about the rivalry between Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan. These two have been rivals behind the camera, but in front of the audience they are all in praise for each other. This is what happened recently, when Salman Khan opened up his feelings about Shahrukh when he lost his temper. This happened in a recent episode of Bigg Boss season 6, a show on Colors Channel, hosted by Salman Khan. The show was aired on Saturday and saw how the superstar lost his calm due to an argument raised by a participant. In his anger, he praised Shahrukh and his hard work and also commented about the huge fan following that he has.
It so happened, that Imam Siddique, a participant of Bigg Boss season 6 claimed himself to be a casting director. Imam Siddique is a well known anchor, designer and casting director. He fell out on an argument with Salman Khan. Since, it was a ‘Special Nomination Episode’ of the show, Salman asked Imam to nominate two contestants for eviction. When Imam took the name of a fellow housemate Niketan, Salman reminded him that since Niketan is the captain of the house for that week, Imam may not nominate him for vote-out.
Salman asked him to change his decision, nut Imam stood firmly by his point arrogantly and illogically arguing that he knows what the Indian audience wants. He kept on putting forward silly remarks in order to defend himself. When Salman mocked Imam regarding this issue, Imam vehemently proclaimed that he had once casted Preity Zinta and Shahrukh Khan in an ad film for a shampoo. That had worked out very well with the audience. He has made Shahrukh Khan what he is today as he knows the demands of the audience.
Furthermore, when Salman Khan tried to interrupt Imam to put forward his point of view, Imam cut him short by saying ‘Time-Out’ continuously. This made Salman lose his patience. He reminded Imam to watch his mouth and after that went on to proclaim the fact that it is not Imam who has made Shahrukh Khan the star he is today. It is Shahrukh’s hard work, sincerity, and the love of his fans which has made him the star. Shahrukh did not become a star because Imam promoted him in an ad film for a shampoo.
Thus, it seems that the ice has been broken finally as the two stars seem to be friends with each other.

'Dabangg 2' collects 111.78 crore in eight days

Superstar star Salman Khan has produced yet another blockbuster for the Bollywood industry. His recent film ‘Dabangg 2’ has minted not less than Rs. 111.78 crore in just about eight days of its release. It seems that after his previous blockbusters, ‘Dabangg’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and ‘Bodyguard’, the actor does not seem to be happy without bringing out a blockbuster every year. Luck seem to shine on him as his works has been appreciated by fans all over the world.
‘Dabangg 2’, which is the directional debut of Arbaaz Khan, stars Salman Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and Prakash Raj in the lead roles. It is the sequel of the movie ‘Dabangg’ that came out a couple of years ago. The film had a backdrop of the rural areas of Uttar Pradesh, adding a different flavor to the movie. The sequel however has been shifted from the rural area to a city. It was made under Arbaaz Khan Production banner and the story has been written by Dilip Shukla. The film released on 21st December in about 3500 screens in India.
This romantic comedy has set itself at the top of the Bollywood charts this year. ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, Salman’s movie which released in Eid, had also made a lot of money. However, ‘Dabangg 2’ has raked the money boxes even though it was not released on a holiday. Its total collection of 10 days amounts to a whopping Rs. 127.03 crore, with an opening amount of Rs. 21.1 crore at the domestic centers. ‘Dabangg 2’ was released at a date where no other big releases took place. Hence, it was expected that the film would do very well at the theaters not only in the first week but in the second week also.
The film collected a sum of Rs. 65 crore in the first week of its release. However, as the expectations were soaring high, collections saw a dip of about 65 percent. In the second week, the film collected Rs. 20.5 crore. This was not expected as ‘Dabangg 2’ had been screened at more theaters than ‘Ek Tha Tiger’. The latter had made Rs. 21 crore in the second week.
In all, ‘Dabangg 2’ managed to collect Rs. 127 crore in total at the domestic box office and it made Rs 35 crore at the overseas box office. Trade analysts are of the view that it is still tough to predict though, whether the film would be able to collect Rs. 200 crore.

Sari Sari Raat-( Khiladi 786-2012)-Songs Lyrics

Jo tenu vehkiyaa, saansien gayi thum
Sari sari raat, soye na hum
Sari sari raat, soye na hum
Jo tenu vehkiyaa, saansien gayi thum
Sari sari raat, soye na hum
Sari sari raat, soye na hum
Palkan di chaavan, thandi hawaavan
Main maangu duaavan
Palkan di chaavan, thandi hawaavan
Main maangu duaavan
Oh rabba ve..
Sari sari raat, soye na hum
Sari sari raat, soye na hum
Jo tenu vehkiyaa, saansien gayi thum
Sari sari raat, soye na hum
Ik pal mein dil yeh betaabiyon ko
Haal-e-tamanna kaise bataaye
Sau afsaane hai, sau sau baatein hai
Jaane-e-tamanna kaise sunaaye
Pehli mulakaat pehli baat
Pehli baarish ki fariyaad..
Sari sari raat, soye na hum
Sari sari raat, soye na hum
Jo tenu vehkiyaa, saansien gayi thum
Sari sari raat, soye na hum
Gili siyaahi se kore kagaaz par
Naam tera hum likha karte the
Furkat mein hum yoon aksar baith kar
Chaaron deeewaron ko dekha karte the
Tum ho sahara, tum ho wafaa
Mere labon ki tum ho dua..
Sari sari raat, soye na hum
Sari sari raat, soye na hum
Jo tenu vehkiyaa, saansien gayi thum
Sari sari raat, soye na hum
Sari sari raat, soye na hum
Sari sari raat..

Tujh se door main bhi hoon majboor
Dil ko sataye teri akhiyon ka noor
Aah, baat ye sachhi aaj tujhko bataaun
Mujhe samajh ni aata
Kaise dooriyan mitaau
Bas tere liye main
Ye geet likhte jaaun
Din raat hi main
Inhe goongunaaun
Phone mein photo teri dekhu baari baari
Ji Kardaa aa java main maar ke udaari
O baawariya
O baawariya
Main kitna tanha tanha
Lonely lonely tere bin
O baawariya
Teri yaad yaad mein
Teri yaad yaad mein
Teri yaad yaad mein tdpe jiya..
O baawariya
O baawariya
Main kitna tanha-tanha
Lonely-lonely tere bin
O baawariya
Saanson mein, aankhon mein
Neendon mein, Khaabon mein
Tu.. hi tu.. o baawariya
Teri yaad yaad mein

Teri yaad yaad mein tdpe jiya..
O baawariya

Jitna main bhoolna chahu
Teri yaadein na dil se jati hain
Koi na koi connection hain
Jo meri neendon ko churati hain
Teri yaad.., saath hain
Teri yaad…, saath hain
Teri yaad yaad mein
Teri yaad yaad mein
Teri yaad yaad mein tdpe jiya
O baawariya

Fire brigade mangwaade tu..haye

Angaaron par hai armaan
Oh balma..oh balma
Haye tera rasta dekh rahi hoon
Sigdhi pe dil saek rahi hoon
Aa pardesi morhe balma
Oh balma..oh balma

Ayaa main aaya, yeh jawala bujhaane
Teri adaayein, aashiq banaayein

Saanson Ne-(Dabangg 2-2012)-Songs Lyrics

Saanson ne baandhi hai dor piya
Tohre liye humra dhadke jiya
Saanson ne baandhi hai dor piya
Tohre liye humra dhadke jiya
Reh rehke dil mera thum sa gaya
Chuke mujhe tune jab yeh kaha
Goriya main tere sang zindagi bitaaunga
Rab se yeh maine hai vaada kiya
Saanson ne baandhi hai dor piya
Tohre liye humra dhadke jiya
Batiyaan tohre naina hum se joh na karte
Haaye raam kasam jeete jee mar jaate
Arey aise kaise oh ji yoon hi tum mar jaate ho
Tum joh na hote hum kyun duniya mein aate
Ki teri meri ik zindagi
Ha sang teri preet lagi
Ho pal pal bhadegi
Haan maine bhi yeh rab se vaada kiya haye..
Sanson ne bandhi hai dor piya
Tohre liye humra dhadke jiya
Saat janam ke saathi
Hum hai diya tum baati
Ho roshan basera hai ghar tera mera
Humre chaand ko takhne
Taare bhi niklein hai
Haye nazar na lagey tujhko baahon mein gehra
Oh chal hut jao ji
Nazdeek aao ji
Hum toh ji haarey ji
Haan maine bhi yeh rab se vaada kiya haye..
Saanson ne baandhi hai dor piya
Tohre liye humra dhadke jiya
Reh rehke dil mera thum sa gaya
Chuke mujhe tune jab yeh kaha
Goriya main tere sang zindagi bitaaunga
Rab se yeh maine hai…vaada kiya

Angdaaiyan leti hoon main jab zor zor se
Uff..
Angdaaiyan leti hoon mein jab zor zor se
Ooh aah ki awaaz hai aati road se
Main toh chaloon iss kadar
Ke mach jaaye aeh gadar
Hosh waale bhi madhosh aaye hai nazar

Hmm..pyaar karle tu aaj humboor ki daughter se
Pyaar karle tu aaj humboor ki daughter se
Nasiyaat bhool jayega tu ek quarter se
Peene waale ko bhi jeene ka mazaa aayega
Yeh bataaye rooh jo chad jaaye sirf water se
Aaja mere raaja tujhe jannat dikhaaon mein
Barfeele paani mein fire lagaaon mein
Saare india..
Oh saare india ko tune gulaam kiya re
Main toh tandoori..

Gatkaale sayiaan yaar alcohol se
Mere photo ko seene se yaar
Chipkaale sayiaan fevicol se
Log kehetein hai mujhe

Kaat dungi main dil ko
Meri jawaani hai cutter
Mera jalwaa joh dekhle
Woh faint ho jaaye
Close karke rakhle tu
Apne naino ka shutter
Public shehar ki kare hai tera wait re
Arey thumke jo kamariya
Hiley jila kya state re
Par kahaani..
Ho par kahani oh rani puraani hai teri
Phir bhi photo ko
Tere photo ko seene mein yaar
Chipkaalunga main fevicol se
My gypsy with siren tayaar
Bhagaaley isse petrol se
Petrol se petrol se
Mere photo ko seene se yaar

SRK, Karan to celebrate New Year together in Dubai

After a brief period of indifference, Bollywood’s best friends Shahrukh Khan and Karan Johar are back as good pals again. News is doing the rounds that  Karan Johar has taken a break for a while from work to bring in the New Year celebration with his all time best buddy Shahrukh Khan and his family.
Shahrukh Khan has just wrapped up the shooting of a song for his upcoming film, ‘Chennai Express’ starring Deepika Padukone in the lead and flown down to Dubai to join Karan. Few days before, Karan vacationed with Shahrukh and his family in London.
“I am here to spend time with Aryan and Gauri. Shah Rukh, Gauri and I are a unit that has evolved beyond the realms of the film fraternity,” Johar told.
The tension between the two brewed when Karan expresses his desire to star Salman Khan in his next.
It is also got to hear that Salman and Karan who has newly turned buddies invited Karan Johar to celebrate New Year at his Panvel Farm house. But Karan chooses his best friend Shahrukh Khan over Salman. Karan yet again has chosen his family and clears the air saying, "brother. SRK, Gauri and I are one unit."

Paresh Rawal`s film under Censor Board`s scanner

Back in 1943 when freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose mouthed the words "Tum mujhe khoon do, main tumhe azadi dunga", it moved an entire nation

Back in present times: With Paresh Rawal saying these exact words in his next film, it has come under the radar of the Censor Boards.

A source says, `Paresh had a scene with this line. The words remain the same but the context is different. The Censor Board has however objected to this line and have asked it to be edited out.` Producer Viki Rajani says, `Yes, the board asked us to delete the line as it may hurt people's sentiments.

Though we are just days away from the release, we managed to convince Pareshji to come and dub for a new line. Unfortunately, the effect won't be the same.`

Kangna Ranaut may not have many friends in Bollywood but she surely knows how to keep her existing buddies close to her. No wonder that when a certain friend of the actress wanted some aid in finding a home in Mumbai, Kangs jumped to her help.

A source says, `Kangna's very close friend has been through a rather messy divorce recently. When it comes to her buddies, Kangna is very sensitive. She is always there to help them. This friend of hers was looking to relocate to the city and Kangs helped her out.`

The friend apparently called Kangs after her marriage broke down. She was located abroad but wanted to move back to India after the divorce.

`She was urgently looking for a place to stay. As soon as Kangna got to know this she immediately decided to lend her money to purchase a flat in the suburbs of Mumbai.` Rumours have it that Kangna also recently helped another friend land a corporate job. Now the actress is one buddy everyone wants on his or her list of friends.

Bollywood 2012: Chasing the stars

Bollywood 2012: Chasing the stars

As the calendar reaches its fag end, Supriyo Hazra moves through the different corners of the year to check out the performance of Bollywood stars in the past 12 months

Aamir Khan: Mr. perfectionist Aamir Khan made his highly impressive small screen debut with his TV show Satyamev Jayate. Highlighting various social issues ranging from honour killing to child abuse, the show not only attracted ordinary viewers but even politicians. Aamir even met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss the plight of manual scavengers who engage in cleaning human waste.

He had spotlighted the problems of manual scavengers in an episode of the show. Before meeting the Prime Minister, Aamir had also met a parliamentary panel to discuss medical problems plaguing India that were highlighted in one of the episodes of the television show. On the big screen, Aamir's act as tough cop , Surjan Singh Shekhawat, in his much awaited release 'Taalash' succeeded in gaining accolades though the film evoked mixed response from reviewers and viewers.

Alia Bhatt: Veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt's daughter Alia Bhatt was one cute student in director Karan Johar's 'Student of the Year' as the actress made her debut in the tinsel town quite successfully. From dancing to the tunes of 'disco deewane' to romancing his co-stars Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan in 'Ishq wala Love', Alia surely promised to show more reflections of her talent in the upcoming years.

Arjun Kapoor: Filmmaker Boney Kapoor's son made his debut opposite Parineeti Chopra in the romantic tale- 'Ishaqzaade'. Both the actors made an impressive mark in the world of Bollywood with their debut film and convinced Indian audience of getting ready to witness stronger performances ahead.

Abhay Deol: If it is Abhay Deol then his fans can always be assured that he has something new to offer. The talented actor and a favourite of the crossover genre once again showed his strong acting skills in director Dibakar Banerjee's political thriller 'Shanghai'. However, his 'Chakravyuh' failed to impress both critics and viewers.

Abhishek Bachchan: One can say junior Bachchan had an average 2012 as far as the success of his films are concerned. Beginning the year with action thriller Players, Bachchan finally tasted moderate success with his 'Bol Bachchan'. While 'Players' tumbled down like nine pins, his comic avatar in 'Bol Bachchan' was successful in pulling some crowds towards theatres.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: The gorgeous lady of B-town vanished from silver screens in 2012 and was mostly busy with her daughter Aradhya. Unlike other years, when her movies and endorsements kept media busy, this year it was her overweight and post-pregnancy shape that triggered a hot debate across the nation.

However, adding more feather to her crown the B-town beauty received the second highest French civilian award, the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters, for her contribution to cinema and promoting Indo-French cooperation, this year.

Ajay Devgn: After portraying tough cop Inspector Bajirao Singham last year, Ajay was busy tickling the funny bone of the audience with films like 'Bol Bachchan' and 'Son of Sardaar'. However, in his real life the actor faced some serious moments when he engaged himself in a legal battle with Yash Raj Films over the release of his film Son of Sardaar.

Ahead of the release, movie buffs witnessed fire works when Devgn had sent a legal notice to Yash Raj Films and alleged that it was using its strong position in the industry and pressurising exhibitors to promote late filmmaker Yash Chopra's last directorial venture 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' over his 'Son of Sardaar'. The actor was invited to anchor the Google+ Hangout session with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi this year.

Akshay Kumar: With five releases this year, Akki was surely one of the kings in B-town in 2012. Akshay made good impact on the box office as his films like Housefull 2, Rowdy Rathore, OMG: Oh My God! gained accolades from his fans besides doing good business this year. His last release of the year, Khiladi 786 is reportedly making impressive business.

Coupled with southern beauty Asin, the original Khiladi of Bollywood still has the potential to draw his followers to the theatres. However, his attempts to capture the hearts of India movie buffs as space scientist Agastya in 'Joker' crashed badly.

Amitabh Bachchan: The same old sounds of the hooter, claps and some moment of excitement were back as Big B hosted the sixth season of popular TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati (also called KBC 6).On the silver screen, he was seen making a special appearance in director Gauri Shinde's English Vinglish.

The superstar, however, mesmerised Bengalis along with the rest of the country as he sang Rabindranath Tagore's creation ''Ekla Cholo Re' for director Sujoy Ghosh's 'Kahaani'. In his personal life, Bachchan's health remained the matter of concern as he spent nearly two weeks in a Mumbai hospital and underwent an abdominal surgery.

Anil Kapoor: While he was the talk of the town in 2011 after sharing the screen space with Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise in the 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol', the actor remained mostly invisible this year. The only film where Anil Kapoor was seen in 2012 was 'Tezz' and sadly it failed to draw the attentions of his fans.

Arjun Rampal: Arjun Rampal and Kareena Kapoor's hot scene in Madhur Bhandarkar's much hyped film 'Heroine' grabbed too many eye balls this year. The film earned mixed response at the box office but it received negative reviews from film critics. The handsome model turned actor's other major releases of the year- Chakravyuh and Ajab Gazabb Love, stumbled miserably.

Asin: Whether it is Aamir Khan or Akshay Kumar, Asin always pairs with the best in the business. In 2012, the southern beauty joined Akshay Kumar in the laugh-riot named 'Housefull 2 and then again in Khiladi 786. She was also seen joining Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Bachchan in another fun-filled merry-go-round 'Bol Bachchan'. Asin played the perfect icing in the comic cakes.

Anushka Sharma: Anushka is slowly emerging as the next big thing in the tinsel town. The pretty-faced girl once again paired with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in late filmmaker Yash Chopra's last creation- 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'. Along with Katrina Kaif, the film was one big release of the year and Anushka played her part well to make her audience utter only one word for her- 'Wow'.

Bipasha Basu: Well, the bong beauty was seen scaring her fans in Vikram Bhatt horror thriller 'Raaz 3'. Bipasha, who was a part of the first film of the Raaz series, made a comeback to it after opting out of the second film. Biapasha's scary avatar as Shanaya Shekhar in the film gained appreciations from her fans.

She was also seen pairing with R Madhavan in 'Jodi Breakers' and shared screen space with Abhishek Bachchan and Neil Nitin Mukesh in multi-starrer 'Players'. Both the films, however, chocked at the box office.

Deepika Padukone: Deepika's bikini sequence in her last released film Cocktail became the talk of the town earlier in the year. The hot-bodied actor grabbed some eyeballs as she played the 'bold and beautiful' Veronica in the film. Both her fans and critics gave positive response to Deepika for her performance though the film was trashed by one and all.

Dia Mirza: After turning into a producer in 2011 with the film 'Love, Breakups, Zindagi', Dia made her debut in Bengali films this year with Paanch Adhyay. The B-town beauty was seen sharing screen space with Priyanshu Chatterjee and veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee in the film.

Diana Penty: Model-turned-actor Diana made a convincing Bollywood debut with 'Cocktail'. Her girl-next-door image in the film as Meera impressed audience as she shared the screen with Bollywood hunk Saif Ali Khan and the hot and sensuous Deepika Padukone, though the film failed to impress cine goers.

Emraan Hashmi: The 'Murder' actor gained appreciations from his fans and critics for his performance in filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee's political thriller 'Shanghai' this year. However, Hashmi continued his long connection with thrillers with the other two releases in the year- 'Raaz 3', Jannat 2 and 'Rush'. While, 'Raaz 3' and 'Jannat 2 ' drew some crowds towards theatres, his Rush totally failed.

Esha Deol: Hema Malini's eldest daughter tied the nuptial knot with businessman Bharat Takhtani this year.

Farhaan Akhtar: The happening guy of Bollywood Farhan Akhtar remained mostly busy with the shooting of his upcoming film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. The film is on Milkha Singh where Farhaan is portraying the character of the former Indian athlete. Though, Indian 70 mm missed Farhan's acting in the year he co-produced Aamir Khan starrer 'Talaash' .

Farah Khan: Choreographer-turned- filmmaker Farah Khan finally appeared in front of the camera as she made her debut as an actress in director Bela Bhansali Sehgal's 'Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi'. However, the film met with a dull response at the box-office.

Hrithik Roshan: Hrithik gave Bollywood its first major hit of the year as his 'Agneepath' did not fail to thrill and entertain his fans. Released on the Republic Day, it opened with a staggering amount of Rs 23 crores over the weekend. The Hrithik Roshan-Priyanka Chopra starrer remake of the 1990 Bollywood film of the same name made a gigantic collection of around Rs 107 crores at the Box Office in just eleven days since it hit the silver screen on Jan 26.

Imran Khan: After giving 'boldness' a new meaning with his performance in 'Delhi Belly' in 2011, Imran was seen romancing Bollywood beauty Kareena Kapoor onscreen. The romantic comedy Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu emerged as a moderate box-office success.

Irrfan Khan: The thinking actor of B-town had an eventful 2012 as his Hollywood appearances caught the attentions of India movie buffs. He was seen playing 'Dr. Rajit Ratha' in super hero film 'The Amazing Spider-Man'. His another international project 'Life of Pi ' has already captivated the attention of global audience. In Bollywood, Irrfan, played a notorious bandit in 'Paan Singh Tomar'. The film impressed the audience with fresh story and interesting settings.

Jacqueline Feranandes: The pretty-faced diva from Sri Lanka joined Akshay Kumar and John Abraham in the laugh-riot 'Housefull 2' that managed to make good business at the box office.

John Abraham: The macho actor turned producer in 2012 and his first production Vicky Donor became both critically and commercially successful. He then established his own production house, John Abraham Entertainment. Right before the release of the film, which dealt with the issue of sperm donation and infertility, John had received a proposal from one of his fans who asked him donate his sperms.

A married woman, who was reportedly facing complications in conceiving a child, had requested the Bollywood hunk to donate his sperms to her. Besides, a Chandigarh fertility centre had also urged the actor to do the same. Well, it speaks volumes about the popularity of his film. Besides seeing his production venture, John's fans saw him joining Akshay Kumar and Riteish Deshmukh to entertain his fans in 'Housefull2'.

Kareena Kapoor: Bebo finally tied the knots with Saif Ali Khan. However, she tasted limited success in reel life as her films like 'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu' ,'Agent Vinod', 'Heroine' failed to reach the expected height of success. Her much anticipated film of the year, 'Heroine', tasted failure. Kareena's ghost act in 'Talaash' received appreciations as she portrayed the character of a prostitute named Rosie quite brilliantly in the film. Coupled with Aamir Khan and Rani Mukherjee, the film received good attentions from movie buffs.

Katrina Kaif: Katrina maintained her numero-uno position in 2012 with fans still going gaga over her beauty and fashion statement. Her item song for the film 'Agneepath' swept the country like wildfire.

She was seen pairing opposite the two Khans of Bollywood, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, in 'Ek Tha Tiger' and 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' as both the films made impressive business and helped the gorgeous actress maintain her dominance in B-town.

Karishma Kapoor: Karishma made her comeback in the world of films with her 'Dangerous Ishhq'. But keeping in mind the negative reviews it received, the actress will surely love to forget the film as fast as possible.

Mallika Sherawat: Mallika Sherawat knows how to touch the heart of her fans as she turned into B-town's 'Laila' for the item song in 'Tezz'. The number may not be as popular like her 'Jalebai' number last year but it was good enough to keep her tuned with her followers. Mallika's only release of the year- Kismet Love Paisa Dilli, with Vivek Oberoi failed to woo movie buffs.

Manoj Bajpayee: Away from the club of 100-crore heroes, Manoj has surely created a place of his own in glitzy world of Bollywood. 2012 surely witnessed his strong performance in as many as three films- 'Chittagong', 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and 'Chakravyuh'. His fans will surely hope to see him deliver equally mightier roles in 2013.

Neha Dhupia: Neha Dhupia appeared in several films this year but all of them disappeared from theaters even before making a slightest impression. From Maximum to Rush, she would surely want to forget them quickly.

Neil Nitin Mukesh: Neil was seen only once in the entire year as Spider in the film 'Players'.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui: Consistency can be the only word that suits actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui who delivered one powerful performance on-screen after the other in 2012. 'Kahaani', 'Talaash', 'Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 1' and 'Gangs of Wasseypur - Part 2', Nawazuddin forced movie buffs to love him every time he appeared on the silver screen this year. He is the new exciting actor on the block.

Prateik Babbar: More than film it was Prateik and his love story that caught the attention of the media this year. It was speculated that the actor was busy romancing co-actor Amy Jackson. However, the Jodi soon split and both decided to take separate ways. Pertinently, Amy and Prateik's reel love story also failed to impress India as their Ekk Deewana Tha had a lukewarm reception at the box office.

Priyanka Chopra: After winning hearts with her acting skills, Piggy Chops unveiled her debut single, "In My City", in September. It gained commercial success in India. In the reel world, she roared with her performance as her 'Agneepath' and 'Barfi' reached new altars of success.

Barfi, where she played the character of an autistic girl, bagged the nomination as India's entry at the Oscar in the foreign film category. But it was finally unable to qualify for the best foreign language film category at the 85th Academy Awards.

Ranbir Kapoor: After playing a heart-broken rockstar in Imtiaz Ali's 'Rockstar' last year, Ranbir captivated his fans by playing the role of a deaf-mute man in Barfi!. The film bagged the nomination as India's entry at the Oscar in the foreign film category. However, the film finally failed to qualify for the best foreign language film category at the 85th Academy Awards.

Riteish Deshmukh: Riteish passed through several ups and downs in his life this year. The actor received a jolt in his life when his father and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh passed away in 2012.

However, Riteish earlier in the year tied the nuptial knot with charming actress Genelia D' Souza after secretly dating each other for nine long years. In the reel life, Riteish continued to score hits as all his films released this year, including 'Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum' and 'Housefull 2', performed well at the box office.

Rani Mukerji: Rani's fans surely expected something special from her in 2012 but all their hopes were shattered when her 'Aiyyaa' turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments of the year. However, her 'Talaash' with Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor did find some place in the hearts of her followers.

Rekha: After sizzling the big screen with her strong performance, Rekha started a new innings in her life as she took oath as Rajya Sabha MP. Rekha made her first appearance in Parliament during the Budget session as she took oath as a Rajya Sabha member on May 15.The voting for the Vice-Presidential election this year was the first time when she exercised their ballots as MP of the upper house of the Indian Parliament.

Former Indian President Pratibha Patil had approved the names of Rekha and cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar for nominated seats in the Rajya Sabha earlier this year.

Saif Ali Khan: Saif perhaps went through the saddest year in his life as he lost his father Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi in 2011. The death of the legendary Indian cricketer made him formally assume the title of 10th Nawab of Pataudi. His next film will be a 2012 release- Agent Vinod. Love of his life Kareena Kapoor also stars in the film. Well the good news is that finally he got married to Kareena this year.

Salman Khan: Sallu again rocked the big screen with his releases like Ek Tha Tiger and he returned as Chulbul Pandey in Dabangg2 opposite Sonakshi while speculations over his marriage plans continue. The stylish Bollywood star passed through some tough phases in real life due to health reasons.

The actor continued to dodge questions on his marriage. Asked on a TV show about his marriage, he said in his Dabangg style, that will it will follow only after Jodhpur and Mumbai courts announce their verdicts on the blackbuck and vehicle mishap cases against him.

Sanjay Dutt: Sanjay started the year with a bang as he scared his fans as the dreaded villain Kacha Cheena opposite Hrithik Roshan in 'Agneepath'. His performance in Son of Sardaar also drew appreciations. However, his charishma failed to sail 'Department' out of rough water.

Shah Rukh Khan: After four long years, SRK finally laughed aloud and danced merrily in Kolkata's Eden Garden as his Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Chennai Super Kings in the final match to win the fifth edition of Indian Premier League under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir. In the world of films, he was seen romancing two lovely ladies, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, in late filmmaker Yash Chopra's 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'.

Box Office India declared the film a "hit" in India and a "blockbuster" overseas. However, Yash Raj Films and independent trade analysts called the film a "worldwide blockbuster".

Shahid Kapoor: Shahid had an unexpected slide at the Box Office as his only release of the year-Teri Meri Kahaani- disappeared fast from theatres and public minds.

Shilpa Shetty: The original 'item girl' of Bollywood, Shilpa Shetty, gave birth to a baby boy at a Mumbai hospital this year. The gorgeous actress had tied knots with London-based businessman Raj Kundra in 2009.

Sonam Kapoor: Sonam hardly made an impression in the minds of her fans this year as her 'Players' failed to play big shots in the Box Office.

Sushmita Sen: Sush remained busy with her 'I Am She - Miss Universe India' project this year and remained completely invisible from the big screen. Hopefully, the former Miss Universe will make a comeback on the silver screen in the coming year.

Sridevi: Ending her long disappearance from Bollywood, Sridevi made a comeback with English Vinglish. The film revolved around housewife Shashi Godbole, played by Sridevi, who enrolled in an English language course during a visit to New York so that she could escape the humiliation at home from family for her poor English language skills. Sridevi's performance did not fail to draw her fans attentions as the film was quite successful in dragging movie buffs towards theaters.

Tusshar Kapoor: Tusshar may have tasted success with his adult comedy flick 'Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum' but his other release of the year 'Chaar Din Ki Chandni' failed to make a mark on Indian audience.

Vidya Balan: Vidya continued to reign as the supreme 'queen' of Bollywood with her 'Kahaani' forcing Indian audience to fall in love with the actress once again. Vidya as the pregnant protagonist in director Sujoy Ghosh's thriller charmed, captivated and mesmerised her fans over and over again.

The film resulted in renewed interest in Kolkata as a filming location, and the character of contract killer Bob Biswas (played by Bengali actor Saswata Chatterjee) became an internet phenomenon in India. Adding one more feather to her crown, Balan also clinched the Best Actress award for her notable performance in the film of previous year 'The Dirty Picture'.

In the personal front, she tied the nuptial knots with UTV Motion Pictures head Siddharth Roy Kapur in December.

Yami Gautam: Her pretty face and Bengali act did not go unnoticed as she made her Bollywood debut with 'Vicky Donor' this year. After commencing her career in the world of glamour with a bang, the actress is surely promising to deliver more stronger performances in the upcoming years.

Rest In Peace:

Yash Chopra: The King of Romance is no more. He died this October at a Mumbai hospital after spending a week in hospital coping with dengue fever. He was 80 when the end came. Chopra, who was born on Sept 27, 1932, had announced his retirement from directing this year on his 80th birthday.

His last directorial venture was SRK-starrer Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Chopra had made his directorial debut with 'Dhool Ka Phool' in 1959, a melodrama about illegitimacy and followed it with the hard-hitting social drama 'Dharmputra' (1961).
