A look back at the 100 years of Indian cinema, tells us that
Bollywood movies have been known for beautiful yet powerful potrayal of
emotions, beauty and poetic expressions. The cinematography, screenplay
and dialogues play a major role in making the film touch the hearts of
the audience. There are many memorable scenes in Indian cinema which
were not only loved by the movie goers but are still alive in our
picture memories even today.
Live again the most memorable scenes which brought the dreams come
alive on screen. Be it Aishwarya running barefoot for the dying Devdas
or Rajkumar gazing at Pakeezah’s feet, we still long to watch these
films again and again to relive the experience.
Mughal-A-Azam
Dilip Kumar, Madhubala
Prince Salim has come home and the palace has come alive with
activity. A sculptor was given the task of making a stone sculpture for
his welcome. Salim shoots an arrow to remove the cloth from the statue.
But he is astonished to find a beautiful girl standing in its place. He
is so mesmersied by her heavenly features that he praises her openly in
the darbar.
Chaudhvin Ka Chand
Waheeda Rehman and Guru Dutt
Waheeda Rehman and Guru Dutt are deeply lost in love in the moonlit
night. Two lotuses in the background are depicting their love in the
nearby pond. Waheeda’s face is glistening in the moonlight and Guru Dutt
has lost his sleep in her beauty. Mesmerised with her charm, he sings
“Chaudhvin Ka Chand Ho Tum, Jo Bhi Ho Khuda Ki Kasam Lajawaab Ho”.
Devdas
Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya
Paro comes to know of a sick man called Devdas breathing his last
under a tree in front of her house. Shocked, Paro runs barefoot to see
her first love while her oil-lamp flickers in the strong wind. As Paro
runs towards the gate, Devdas dies with Aishwarya in sight. The flowers
shower over him as if honouring his love for Paro on his deathbed who is
stopped by the closing gates.
Pakeezah
Rajkumar and Meena Kumari
The train is running into darkness and the stations are passing by
one by one. The passenger Sahib Jaan is reading a book to pass her time
but is slowly slipping into sleep. Her henna decorated feet are also
shaking with the speeding train while her spotless white attire is
adding to her mystic beauty. Having a glimpse of her heavenly beauty in
his hurry, Salim couldn’t rush but step inside the compartment to have a
better look. Caught hold by her charisma, his sight stops at her feet.
He leaves a message on a paper “Ittifakan aapke compartment mein chala
aaya, aapke paer dekhe, bahut haseen hain….inhe zameen pe mat rakhiyega,
maele ho jayenge.”
Guide
Waheeda Rehman and Dev Anand
Pia tose naina laage re, jaane kya ho ab aage re
The emotional dance by Rosi in Guide is still fresh in the eyes of
the audience. The magnificent sets, perfect lighting, rare amalgam of
different cultures and use of different colours leaves the audience
spellbound. There are Diwali lamps and fireworks in one scene and lively
Holi colours in another. The complete cinematography is outstanding.
