Bombay Talkies: Zoya Akhtar is a copy cat!

Those who have watched Bombay Talkies reveal that Zoya Akhtar’s story of a boy cross dressing and believing he’s a girl isn’t actually original work. Buzz is that the Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara director took inspiration from the 1997 Belgian drama Ma vie en rose (My Life in Pink).
After reading the synopsis of the original film it is clear that both the stories are indeed similar and deal with the same story line. Directed by Alain Berliner, the Belgian drama tells the story of Ludovic, a child who is seen by his family and community as a boy, but consistently insists that he is a girl. The film depicts Ludovic and his family as they struggle to accept his gender and sexuality.
Zoya on the other hand has kept the ending of the film quite open. The narrative ends with the boy dressed up as a girl dancing to the tune of Sheila Ki Jawani.  However, in Berliner’s film there is a proper end to the storyline.
