Did you know Mamta Kulkarni married a man while he was still in prison?


 
Actor Mamta Kulkarni, who did several films in 90s, had vanished from Mumbai over a decade back. It was believed that Mamta, started a life of ambiguity after facing financial troubles and she fell for drug trafficker Vicky Goswami. In 1997, Vicky was taken into custody for trafficking 11.5 tonnes of mandrax ($ 6 million).

According to a leading tabloid, Vicky was released from the prison in Dubai on November 15, 2012. His life sentence was lessened, courtesy his behavior. While he was in prison, he started following Islam, and tied the knot with Mamta. His wife Mamta had been taking care of his real estate business - well-known hotel in Dubai, while he wasn’t around. According to sources close to them, Vicky stays in Nairobi, with Mamta.

The news of Vicky being released from prison was reported in news channels in South Africa. "A life sentence in Dubai is in effect 25 years, but prisoners can apply for early release on various grounds. Apart from good conduct, these include learning to recite passages from the Qu'ran or converting to Islam. To strengthen his clemency appeal, Goswami converted to Islam and was married according to Islamic rites while incarcerated," an article in the Mail & Guardian read.

Even though the lawyers from the opposition team went up against his clemency emphasizing the point he was an international criminal, the court forgave him for being a reformed criminal and a pious Muslim.


According to the court’s order, he had to be sent to his native place in India. According to sources, Vicky came to India during December 2012, he left for Kenya shortly. Since no criminal cases were pending against him, it wasn’t difficult for him to go to Kenya.


Even though Mamta had vanished, she was in touch with her siblings. While one of his sisters lives in Mumbai, the other takes care of her house back in Mumbai.
