Chances are that the handwriting check procedure will soon confirm that it is, indeed, the late actress' self-written letter. As the rape charges cannot be proved - now that Nafisa has been buried - Indian laws, in the past few years, have not been too hard on those who inflict torture, though the Universal Declaration of Human Rights condemns it.
- Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948, claims: No one shall be subjected to torture, or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
- The Prevention of Torture Bill, 2008, claims that torturing anybody on the ground of his race, religion, place of birth, residence, language, caste and community would be a punishable offence.
What will be Police's action? Especially when Rabiya Khan, late Nafisa Khan's mother, had recently said in an interview that she will not take any action against the Pancholi's as it will not make a difference.
According to the laws, he deserves to be punished. Else, the police can wait for another candle-light vigil by the country's youth to force them to take an action.
Meanwhile, Suraj, guilty, now that all the details are out of the bag, seems to be hiding. On Saturday evening, at the condolescence meeting for Nafisa Khan, while most Bollywood actors were present, Suraj Pancholi and Aditya Pancholi were absconding.
