'Raanjhnaa' continues to rule at the box office

It seems audiences have started appreciating movies even without top notch star casts. In 2013, movies like ‘ABCD’, ‘Kai Po Che’, ‘Fukrey’, ‘Aashiqui 2’ despite not having ‘top notch star casts’, did impressive business. The latest in the list is ‘Raanjhnaa’.
The film is an innocent love story shot in the traditional city of Benaras. The movie sees Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor in the lead roles. Dhanush is an established South Indian actor. But there was speculation if north Indian audiences would like his acting. Dhanush came up with flying colors. His acting is worth watching. His acting is appreciated from all the corners of the country. He has beautifully portrayed himself as a teenager lover boy in this movie.
Even Sonam Kapoor has comfortably slid in the character of a teenager girl. She took inspirations from the character of Jaya Bachchan from movie ‘Guddi’.
Despite competition from other movies which released on the same date like ‘Fukrey’, ‘Raanjhnaa’ did very good business. Over the weekend it opened up at 5.5 crpores on the first day. Second day collection of the movie was 7 crores which shot up to 9 crores on third day. So the weekend business of ‘Raanjhnaa’ sums up to 20-22 crores. On 28th June, ‘Raanjhnaa’ will be released in Tamil language. Since Dhanush is a Tamilian super star, it is expected that ‘Raanjhnaa’ will do some impressive business in South as well.
The music by A.R. Rahman is melodious. He has introduced a folk classical beat in few of its songs. Title song beautifully draws the essence of Benaras city.
Film Critic Komal Nath said, “On the whole, 'Raanjhanaa' is an interesting, entertaining and a fairly different love story. It is like heady wine and its effect will only grow.”
CNN IBN wrote, "For its immensely entertaining first half, a winning score by AR Rahman, but most of all for Dhanush, this is a film that’s worth your time. I’m going with three out of five for 'Raanjhanaa'. It’s not perfect, but it’ll do.”
Critic Tatan Adarsh gave the movie a score of 3.5 on a scale of 5. He said, “On the whole, 'Raanjhanaa' encompasses romance and myriad emotions most wonderfully, besides bravura performances and a popular musical score from the maestro. A film that touches the core of your heart. A film that's definitely worthy of a watch. Not to be missed!!”
