Ranbir Kapoor beats Salman Khan

Ranbir kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrerer ‘Yeh Jawaani hai Deewani’(YJHD) has outshined all the other big starrer movies to become the first movie to achieve Rs. 100 crore club within seven days of its release. Though the critics were expecting a grand opening at the box office for Ayan Mukherji’s YJHD, the actual numbers have been superb and by far exceeded expectations.
The movie bagged an impressive business on the first day of its opening by touching a whooping figure of Rs.19.45 crores. It did a business of Rs.20.16 and Rs.22.5 crores on Saturday and Sunday respectively averaging a weekend collection at Rs.62.11 crores. With this grand figure of Rs.62 crore, YJHD has become the first movie in the history of Bollywood to reach this mark in the opening week. This figure represents India business only. The critics attribute its success mainly to the positive reviews and the persuasive word of mouth. Also the audience wanted to see the chemistry between the ex-lovers Ranbir and Deepika.
However, few sources claim ‘Dabangg 2’ to have grossed higher business in its opening weekend, the difference in the numbers are marginal. Also ‘Dabangg 2’ was released on Christmas weekend, making it a festival weekend. YJHD, despite being a non festival weekend opener bagged an impressive business at the box office.
With this, YJHD surpasses weekend collection of other Rs.100 crore club movies like ‘Dabangg 2’, ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, ‘Ra.one’, ‘Bodyguard’, ‘Race 2’ and ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’.
Noted trade analyst Mr. Taran Adarsh on Monday put on tweeter, "#YehJawaaniHaiDeewani collected Rs. 62.11 cr nett in opening weekend. Breakup:- Fri 19.45 cr, Sat 20.16 cr, Sun 22.5 cr. Outstanding!"
The overseas business for this movie has also been impressive. In the first two days of its release, UK collection surges to £ 278,618 [Rs 2.39 cr] and  New Zealand business for the first two days remained at NZ$ 45,873 [Rs 20.60 lacs]. In US, YJHD was released in 162 theaters on Friday, earning $1.6 mn. With this figure YJHD entered the list of top ten box office earners at 8th position in US. Speaking about this, the ‘New York Post’ box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian expressed his surprise by telling that it was quite unusual for a Bollywood movie to enter top 10 earner movies, though sometimes they do feature in the top 20 or top 25 list.
This movie well connects to the young generation and is expected to dominate the popularity charts in the coming weeks too.
