The fine line between
Bollywood and Cricket dissolved back in 2008 when big names like Shah
Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty took the plunge and invested
in teams prior to the first IPL. Therefore, it is no surprise that the
shadow of the recently uncovered ‘spot fixing’ scandal, that has put 3
players from Rajasthan Royals behind bars, is also being cast on these
team owners.
In a statement released by Delhi Police DCP Neeraj Kumar, Raj
Kundra, part owner of Rajasthan Royals and hubby of Shilpa Shetty,
admitted to being involved with betting on the recent IPL games. Even
though no arrests have been made, Kundra’s passport has been ceased by
the police to prevent him from leaving the country before the
investigations regarding the scam have been concluded.
Shilpa Shetty has been vehemently defending her husband ever since
the news about his involvement hit the news and even went on twitter to
condemn media’s role in spreading half-baked truths and uncorroborated
information.
Considering the recent developments that uncovered the involvement
of CEOs and Team Principals, it may not be a far fetched idea to
speculate that the scam may lead the Crime Branch right up to the
Bollywood honchos themselves.
Even though the ‘three-musketeers’ have quite eloquently denied any
involvement and even condemned the players involved, it may be only a
matter of time before one of the accused, quite possibly Vindoo Dara
Singh, ends up naming one of them.
Here is how Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Dhoni can land in trouble as far as betting is concerned.
Mumbai crime branch has
so far arrested 14 persons in IPL betting racket case, including CSK
team principal Gurunath Meyiappan and Vindoo Dara Singh.
Bollywood actor Vindoo
Dara Singh had tried to get "inside" information from the CEO of IPL
team Kolkata Knight Riders, according Mumbai police's crime branch.
The Enforcement
Directorate registered money laundering case in the IPL spot-fixing
scandal to probe alleged routing of hawala funds and other financial
irregularities which emerged after police investigations and also
interrogated Kings XI Punjab's co-owner Preity Zinta in that regard.
Delhi Police chief Neeraj Kumar, in an interview to TV channels, confirmed that Kundra had admitted to placing bets.
