Actor Nikhil and Co. roughen up college students

Though it sounds like a story from the film sets of the actor Nikhil Siddharth

Nikhil Siddharth, it is true. The actor and his trusted body guards went to St Peter’s College on Tuesday and thrashed four engineering students from the second year. The college is situated on the outskirts of Hyderabad, at Pet Basheerabad. This incident has stirred up a controversy and it is learnt that the actor’s brother Rohit Siddharth studies at the Malla Reddy Engineering College in the first year. The 4 engineering students of the same college from the second year have earlier beaten Rohit Siidharth.
It is heard that Rohit (17 yrs) had a quarrel with his 4 seniors - Harikrishna, Lakshmikanth Reddy, Lakshman and Krishna Reddy earlier.  Later on all the students went to the St. Peter’s College to seat for an exam scheduled to start from 2pm on Tuesday. The 4 second year seniors called their junior Rohit to the canteen at around 1:30pm and after some argument beat him up well.
Nikhil went to the college along with 15 – 20 men on getting a distress call from his brother Rohit. The men beat up the 4 engineering students for good and the ensuing chaos disrupted the whole college and the exam had to be cancelled. The college called up the police to control the situation.
Speaking about the incident, the ACP of Pet Basheerabad, Syed Rafeeq said, “We have registered cases under Sections 506 and 323 of IPC against the four boys basing on a complaint. However, no one has been arrested and we are still looking into the matter as it may also be a case of ragging.”
The actor Nikhil Siddharth speaking about the incident said lightly that, “My brother was roughed up. It was a police matter and the college management took proper action after the incident. In fact, my brother could not write his examination because he was injured.”
The actor down played the incident by saying that it was a mere college matter that didn’t require much attention. A police case has been registered against the 4 hooligan students though no arrests are made so far. It seems ragging is still rampant in the Hyedrabad engineering colleges and the malpractice still exists.
Rohit is lucky that he has a famous brother who could come to his aid but what about the other students that face ragging harassments every day? Is the AP government taking notice?
