Boxer Vijender Singh set to make Bollywood debut




Olympic bronze medalist boxer Vijender Singh is all set to make his Bollywood debut with the upcoming movie “Fugli”. The 27 years old sport person was looking for a good script for some time and then he met Akshay Kumar and both the sport person and the actor bonded over same passion of fitness.  The movie is backed by Akshay Kumar’s production company Grazing Goat Pictures. Ashwini Yardi is the co-producer for this movie as he is the co-owner of Grazing Goat.
The movie will be directed by Kabir Sadanand. Sadanand confirmed the news of Vijender being in the movie and said, “We have Vijender in our film. He was perfect for the role. He will go through acting workshops”.
Sadanand did not reveal much about the movie but revealed it to be a ‘social thriller’. “It is a social-thriller film with a strong message,” Sadanand said. When questioned about the star cast of the movie, Sadanand said, “We have some actors on our wish list, but we would not like to take any names”.
The shooting for the movie “Fugli” will begin in August this year.
The previous projects of Kabir Sadanand include “Popcorn Khao Mast Ho Jao” which was released in 2004 and “Tum Milo toh Sahi” which was released in 2010. Currently Kabir is looking forward to his upcoming movie “Golu Aur Pappua” which is a comedy and stars Vir Das and Kunal Roy Kapoor of “Delhi Belly” fame.
Apart from his boxing game, Vijender Singh has also been known in the sports world for his good looks and his fitness. After he won Olympic medal, he was signed for a number of endorsements. He is also associated with an NGO that works for poor kids. Of late, the image of this sport person got a little tarnished due to doping charges against him. However subsequent tests and questioning confirmed him to be clean.
Vijender was born on 29th October in 1985 near Bhiwani district of Haryana. He received his early education in the village but later went to Bhiwani to receive college degree from Bhiwani College. His claim to fame is the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, where he bagged a Bronze medal, the first ever Olympic medal for an Indian boxer. He also received Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award.
Vijender is the next sport person after cricketer Ajay Jadeja and Leander Paes to try Bollywood luck as a lead actor. Ajay and Leander debuted in "Khel" and "Rajdhani Express" respectively.
