Bollywood fans have long hoped to see the handsome hero with romantic eyes, Abhishek Bachchan paired with the bubbly and most popular heroine of B town, Kareena Kapoor. Well, the wait is over as Abhishek and Kareena will work together in Bhushan Kumar's 'Mere Apne'. The couple debuted together in Refugee but since then, appeared in only one movie: Main prem ki diwani hoon in 2003. In the same year, Abhishek who had been engaged to Kareena’s sister Karishma Kapoor for four months broke it off. The result was a long standing feud between Abhi and Bebo which showed little signs of abetting with time.
However, it now seems that the pair has decided to bury their differences and work together. Director Umesh Shukla, made famous by Oh my God is directing a film Mere Apne, produced by Bhushan Kumar. According to sources, the film borrows heavily from Michael Caine’sThe Italian job. Shukla had finalized Abhishek Bachchan in the lead role some time ago, though there was speculation that the part would be offered to Saif Ali Khan. The search for the leading lady was on. It now seems that talks are going on with Kareena Kapoor and a reading has been scheduled.
Reports indicated that Asin Thottumkal may have been considered for the film. However, Shukla said, "We have not approached Asin so far. In fact, we have not approached anybody so far."
He said he was busy with the “final draft of the script" and "………. as soon as I finish the script, we will hunt for the leading lady."
Evidently the director is interested in Kareena and a reading has been scheduled on Monday.
According to a source, "Initially talks were on with Saif Ali Khan but he did not have dates and Abhishek Bachchan replaced him. Although Saif and Kareena’s chemistry would have sizzled onscreen, it will be nice to watch Abhishek and Kareena after Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, which was their last film together in 2003.”
The film will have heavy emphasis on family and it goes to floor in the September of this year. Rishi Kapoor will be seen in the film in the capacity of Abhishek’s father. You can expect some great photography as most of the film will be shot in Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and some parts of London. It will definitely be interesting to see Abhishek and Kareena paired with each other and how they heat up the screen after such a long
