‘Yeh Jawaani Hain Deewani’ continues to rule, mints 1.5 crores

Whether it is the plot or the much anticipated onscreen chemistry between Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone , Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani has continued to rake in profits even as it stands on the threshold of the third week of its release.
Karan Johar and director Ayan Mukherjee has come together for the second time in this film, Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani. With Ranbir and Deepika in the lead roles and an item song by the Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit and superb music, the film was almost slated for success and its opening figures were – as expected, awesome. What is amazing is that even after two full week of screening, the film continues to rake in profits to such an extent that its gross earning has now crossed Rupees 1.5 crores.
On the opening day itself, Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani collected a whopping Rs. 19.45 crores. The collections of the first weekend of the film exceeded that of Ra.one, Dabangg 2, Ek Tha Tiger and Bodyguard. It did not take the film long to join the 100 crore club as it earned Rs. 62.11 crore in the first weekend itself.
The popularity of the film has continued unabated and as the end of the second week approaches, collections have risen to Rs. 146.61 crores. It has done very well overseas also, collecting a total of $8 million including $3 million in USA.
The reasons for the huge success of the film are not hard to find. Fans were avidly waiting for a taste of on screen chemistry between Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone as this is the first time that they had worked together after their much publicized breakup. In addition, the item song by Madhuri Dixit, surprisingly good performance by Kalki Koelchin and excellent photography added to the appeal of the film. The music was definitely one of the major attractions.
Moreover, Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani is not receiving much in the way of competition. The negative reviews of the other major film released now, Yamla Pagla Diwana 2 has also helped to drive crowds towards this movie. It is collecting far more on its second week than what many movies collect on their opening nights. Surprisingly, even weekday collections were good and by the end of 14 days of showing, the film has earned Rs. 154.71 crores. It thus seems Ranbir Deepika Jodi has delivered another super hit.
