Salman Khan
may have been known as the quintessential mentor in Bollywood, but he’s
got competition now. The latest to take young star kids under their
wings are Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan and John Abraham, who’ve been in Bollywood for decades.
While Hrithik is mentoring Student of the
Year actors Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra, and Arjun Kapoor, Aamir
is guiding Jackie Shroff’s son Tiger, and John is training Shakti
Kapoor’s son Siddhanth Kapoor. This, even as industry insiders say it is
not star kids but other aspirants who need mentoring. “Hrithik has
always been encouraging — whether it’s about my training or my acting,”
says Arjun.
Varun seconds that. “His guidance has proved helpful,” he says. As
for Aamir, buzz is that the Khan will soon launch Tiger, but his father
Jackie denies that and says the guidance is of a different kind: “Aamir
has told Tiger that if he needs any help in understanding the script or
the marketing of the film, he is always around.”
Siddhanth, on his part, told us in an interview that he does not need a godfather, but he is happy giving John that chance. “John had gone out of the way to help me,” he says. John, who’ll star with him in Shootout at Wadala, is also all praise for him. “He’s a future superstar,” says John. Meanwhile, good ol’ mentor daddy Sallu is now working with Aditya Pancholi’s son Suraj, and his bodyguard Shera’s son. “Salman bhai is above and beyond a mentor for me,” says Arjun, Salman’s old student.
Aamir on the cover of time
Aamir Khan has found a place on one of the seven special covers of the Time magazine, which lists him among the world’s 100 most influential people. Apart from the 48-year-old actor, the other Indians on the list are Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, Delhi lawyer Vrinda Grover and California’s Indian-American attorney general Kamala Harris. Other prominent names include Pakistani teenager activist Malala Yousafzai and US President Barack Obama.
