Rakhee and Gulzar to celebrate grandson’s birthday

Time flies fast and it is time for the third birthday bash of Rakhee and Gulzar’s grandson Samay. The grandparents plan to celebrate the birthday along with their daughter Meghna and her husband at the family farmhouse.
Rakhee Mazumdar was born the very day India got its independence. She belonged to a poor Bengali family in West Bengal and had no connection with the film industry. However, as luck would have it, she got her first break at the age of twenty and acted in the Bengali film ‘Bandhu Baran’ (year 1967) which went on to become a huge hit. This brought her in notice of actor Sunil Dutt who suggested her for the lead role in ‘Reshma aur Shera’. Her onscreen pairing with Sashi Kapoor was appreciated by the critics and the movie goers alike. Rakhee retired from movies in the year 2003. During her teens she was married for a short time to Ajoy Biswas.
Later on during the pinnacle of her career Rakhee married the charismatic lyricist and poet Sampoorna Singh Gulzar. The couple had the beautiful daughter Meghna Gulzar, nick named Bosky. When Meghna was one year old the couple decided to get separated though they never got officially divorced. Rakhee stays at her farmhouse in Panvel, it is on the outskirts of Mumbai whereas Gulzar stays in his home in Mumbai.
The birthday of Samay will bring the family together again this time of the year. Gulzar always cherished the birthday celebrations of his daughter and took care to make each of them special. He used to write a short book about Bosky on each of her birthday and distributed it among her friends. In an attempt to surprise her father, little Meghna on her 13th birthday wrote a book one her father and presented it to Gulzar.
It seems writing and books remain an important part of celebration in the Gulzar house hold. On enquiring Gulzar saab about the role of his grandson in his life, he stated "What he means to me is revival of my own self. Due to my attachment with Bosky (Meghna), I wrote many books. She grew up and went out of the orbit of childhood. Now, this child has come into that orbit and I am once again writing for him. I've been writing for him ever since he was born."
