I could have ruled Bollywood: Dharmendra

Mumbai, April 30 -- Dharmendra has been one of the biggest superstars the industry has witnessed. And his fans still love and adore him the way they did during his heyday. But nowadays, the actor, unlike some of his contemporaries such as Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor, is not being offered good films and meaty roles. Dharmendra did not sign any film for four years even after appearing in significant roles in 2007 releases Life In A Metro, Apne and Johnny Gaddar.
He complains that filmmakers have not offered him good scripts since then. "I'll do a film only if it's a great script. But now, I sit at home and find stories on my own. What can I do if no one approaches me with good films?" he says.
Recently, Dharmendra was seen in Yamla Pagla Deewana (2011) and Tell Me O Kkhuda (2011). His next is a sequel to Yamla Pagla Deewana, which is scheduled to release this year. He claims that he never used his star power to grab films and pull back other actors.
"If I wanted to I could have ruled Bollywood in the '70s and '80s. I had the power to make all the stars sit at home and do all their films. But I didn't do that," says Dharmendra. "I am not here to be in the audience's mind, but I will always be in my fans' hearts. That's the most significant and valued thing that an actor can achieve."

Hit & Run: How Salman Khan continues to enjoy celebrity fun

 

 Mumbai, April 30: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan seems to have been enjoying his celebrity status, even though he is an accused in a hit and run case in which one person was killed and four were injured. A session court on Tuesday, April 30 once again exempted the actor from appearing for the court proceeding adjourning the matter till May 8. Salman's counsel Ashok Mundargi reportedly had requested the court to exempt the actor from appearance in connection with 2002 hit and run case. The court also would hear the actor's plea on the same scheduled date. Salman's application challenges a magistrate court order that changed the charges against him from death by negligence to culpable homicide. The actor had not been summoned to appear before the court and the matter was argued by his lawyers. The actor had contended the magistrate erred in invoking IPC section 304 part-II, offences under which are triable by a sessions court and attract 10 years imprisonment. He said the magistrate failed to appreciate that he had neither the intention (to kill people) nor the knowledge that his rash and negligent driving would kill. Earlier, Salman was tried by a magistrate for causing death by negligence (section 304 A) that provides for two years in jail. After examining 17 witnesses, the magistrate concluded culpable homicide charge was made out against the actor and transferred the case. On the fateful night of September 28, 2002, the actor allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol had run over his Toyota Land Cruiser on homeless people who were sleeping on the pavement. Earlier the 47-year-old actor had managed to get 87 exemptions (yes, you have read it right) from appearing before the court in relation to the same hit-and-run case. He was also one of the accused in the infamous hunting of Chinkara, an endangered species in Rajasthan, while shooting for a film. The number of exemptions itself is a record of sort for any accused facing criminal charges. The trail of the case began in Bandra court in 2006.

Writer accuses Anurag Kashyap of plagiarism, director denies

A writer has accused director Anurag Kashyap of copying his story in the compilation movie "Bombay Talkies" but the "Dev D" director has rubbished the claims, saying he would not allow "free publicity" at his expense.

Nishant G Ranjan claimed Kashyap's upcoming short film in "Bombay Talkies" is based on a similar story that he sent to the director in 2011. Ranjan has taken the matter to Film Writers Association.

The film, which releases on May 3, is a compilation of four stories by Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar, Karan Johar and Kashyap.

"The basic premise of the story is same - the struggle and the last wish of a fan to meet his idol Amitabh Bachchan. I had given my story to Anurag Kashyap in 2011. He did not reply so I thought he did not like the idea," Ranjan claimed.

He also claimed that he did not get back with Kashyap because he thought the director did not like his idea and came to know about the similarities after reading articles in newspapers.

Reacting to Ranjan's claims, Kashyap tweeted, "Mr Nishant Ranjan, you have accused the wrong guy... I don't allow free publicity at the expense of my reputation.

Will keep making films with or without stars, says Zoya Akhtar

Mumbai: Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar has so far worked with popular actors in tinsel town but says that even if some day "stars" refuse to work with her, she won't stop making movies.
"If every star refuses to work with me, am I going to stop making movies? Not at all! So, I will keep making movies with or without them," Zoya said here recently.
Zoya has worked with stars like Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Abhay Deol and even her actor-filmmaker brother Farhan Akhtar.

Zoya says that even if some day \"stars\" refuse to work with her, she won\'t stop making movies.

She admits the presence of known names spells business.
"Stars ensure an opening and that's why they are stars. They ensure eyeballs and they ensure people will notice your film. Some of them are amazing actors, who fit perfectly into a film. They are also very exciting to work with," she said.
As of now, Zoya awaits the release of 'Bombay Talkies', which includes one of her short films.

Animated adventure comedy 'Epic' to release in India before US

New Delhi: Hollywood film 'Epic', a 3D animated adventure comedy, will hit Indian screens May 17, a week before it opens in the US.
The Fox Star Studios' fantasy movie is based on William Joyce's book 'The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs'. It has voiceovers by Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, Christoph Waltz, Aziz Ansari, Pitbull, Steven Tyler and Beyonce Knowles.
After the success of the studio's 'Rio', which was also released a week earlier, this is said to be the second foreign animation film ever to release first in India over the international territories, said a statement.

According to reports, the new age Chupke Chupke will be directed by OMG! Oh My God Umesh Shukla.
Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 1975 movie had Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sharmila Tagore, Jaya Bhaduri along with Om Prakash and Asrani.
Director Umesh Shukla will begin work on the movie next year since nothing has been finalised about the cast.
There were reports that Sharman Joshi might play the role essayed by Dhamrendra and Manish Paul will step into Big B's shoes. But nothing has been confirmed yet.

Aamir Khan’s former wife Reena Dutta was spotted at his son Azad’s first birthday and now again Reena was seen at a special event of her ex-husband Aamir Khan. Aamir Khan debut movie, ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ completed 25 years and on this special occasion, a special screening of the movie was arranged and Reena who was also a small part of the movie but then an integral part of Aamir’s life was also present to celebrate the moment.

Also present on the occasion was Aamir Khan’s wife Kiran Rao, brother Faisal Khan, nephew Imran Khan and his wife Avantika. Aamir’s daughter Iran was also clicked.
Aamir looked visibly happy as after a long period again the cast met, "I am very happy the entire cast is meeting after a long time. Now we all will sit together and remember all those old moments," he told reporters prior to the screening.

Sharing his first day experience of shoot, Aamir said, “I remember that on the first day of the shoot at Ooty, we were supposed to shoot a scene where after me and Juhi Chawla spend the night in the jungle, I wake up in the morning and panic as Juhi is nowhere to be seen. The shot was almost ready when a fog rolled in. We thought the fog would dissipate in a few hours so we waited for it to go away so that we could get on with the shooting".

Juhi Chawla who as Aamir’s leading lady in the movie was also a part of the event. Speaking about remaking the movie, Juhi said, "will do it again" if a remake is done. "We don't have any plans of doing a remake. It was released on the 29th (of April) and the whole cast and crew has been invited for a screening on that day.
