Huma Qureshi, 26 is the new arrival on the screens of Hindi films as she debuts in “Ek This Daayan”. Frankly emotional, she depends on her more mature younger brother Saqib Qureshi to provide her with the necessary guidance. Huma had debuted earlier in Gangs of Wasseypur where her role won critical acclaim.
Recently, rumors of Qureshi’s growing relationship with Gangs of Wasseypur director Anurag Kashyap hit the tabloids and speculation has been rampant since then. It was also suggested that wife Kalki Koechlin was blissfully unaware of the situation. However, the seductive beauty categorically denies the rumor. “No, I am not dating Anurag Kashyap and I am not going to let these stories affect my relationship with him or Kalki. My parents are fond of him and I won’t stop hanging out with him or stop going to his office because of these stories. Is a married couple not allowed to be friends with a single girl? It’s strange that these stories are coming in the last two months. It’s a convenient way of bringing me down given that I am doing a number of roles. And yes, I’d like to date someone, but unfortunately I am not dating anyone at the moment,” said Qureshi.
Meanwhile Kashyap has exploded in twitter with his denials. “Mumbai Mirror is so consistently full of shit.. creating deliberate news when there is none” was one of his tweets while “Investigate your stories. Don’t copy paste, mumbaimirror” is another. It does seem as if he is protesting too much!
Qureshi is the daughter of famous Delhi Restaurateur Salim Qureshi who runs a chain of restaurants called Salim’s for over the last 30 years. Her mother is Kashmiri. She comes from a large traditional family. She was living in a flat with four roommates in Juhu when she started shooting for ads. It was during one of her shoots with Aamir Khan on an advertisement for Samsung product that she met Anurag Kashyap. He gave her the first role in his film “Gangs of Wasseypur”. Huma was advised to wait for a more romantic lead role, but her small role in the film won her critical acclaim.
Huma is now busy as her next film “Ek Thi Daayan” is released. This is a truly creepy supernatural film by Kannan Iyer. Her costars include Emran Hashmi, Kankana Sensharma and Kalki Koechlin.
