Birthday Special: Box office hits of Rani Mukherjee

Rani Mukerji, coming from the filmy background, was not new to the tinsel town. Born on 21st March 1978, Rani Mukerji celebrates her 35th birthday tomorrow.
The actress generally prefers low key celebrations, and we guess this year again, it is going to be one of those quiet affairs. She started her career with “Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat” (1997), but went on to become successful with her supporting role in Karan Johar’s “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” (1998). The movie helped her build her career and since then, there has been no looking back for her. It earned Rani Mukerji her first Filmfare award in the Best Supporting Actress Category. In the same year, she starred in ‘Ghulam’ (1998) with Aamir Khan, and the movie went on to do good business. Then on, she went on to do some forgetful films until ‘Saathiya’ (2002) happened. It reinvented her image and gave her critical acclaim as well. Further, she went on to become a part of ‘Hum Tum’ (2004) and ‘Yuva’ (2004), both critically acclaimed films. Rani Mukerji went on to become the first ever actress to win the titles of Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, for ‘Hum Tum’ and ‘Yuva’, respectively.
After seeing her performance in ‘Yuva’, one of the critics commented, “the role demanded an actress of substance and Rani more than lives up to the expectations.”
Then came ‘Veer Zaara’ (2004) in the same year, where again she was shining in the supporting role of a Pakistani lawyer. Directed by Yash Chopra, the movie captured all the characters and the story very well.
In the year after that, 2005, she went to do ‘Black’. This movie again reinvented her image. It was a role very different at that time, and most not willing to be a part of. It was the role of a deaf, dumb and blind girl. It remains her most challenging performance till date. Along with Amitabh Bachchan, she created magic on the screen. This was the movie which established her image of a leading actress.
In the same year, she was a part of high profile films like ‘Bunty aur Babli’ with Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan, ‘Paheli’ with Shah Rukh Khan and ‘The Rising’ with Aamir Khan. Her last release, ‘Aiyya’, failed to break any of her records. And even though there has been much speculation on her personal front regarding her love relation with Aditya Chopra, her professional career has been more than successful for her.
