Indian movies have been significantly successful in major parts of the world, but up till now, Japan has been a different story. All of that changed, thanks to Yash Raj Films. Yash Raj Films formed a tie with one of Japan's oldest movie studio, which is an entertainment company as well. YRF's tie up with Nikkatsu Corporation has ensured that the films Ek Tha Tiger and Jab Tak Hai Jaan will be released in the Japanese market. Ek Tha Tiger has already premiered in the Japanese market and the JTHJ will premier later this summer.
Japan is a big market as it has a very strong economy, so this is quite a big move on part of Yash Raj Productions. This is a new market and if Indian movies become hit in this market, Bollywood would have its presence all across the globe, which will certainly be a great feat. It is quite obvious that it would be YRF productions that would make this move, for they are certainly the premium production house of the whole country.
A press conference was held in Osaka, Japan, about the same. Kabir Khan participated in the conference along with the head of the YRF production house Aashish Singh and the overseas head of the production house, Avtar Panesar. There were a lot of prominent media people attending the event. It was hosted by Mr Vikas Swarup, the Consul General of India. The press conference touched upon the most important parts about the Indian film industry and its vibrant nature. Movies have become one of India's best exports and they have been highly successful in a number of countries, even in the west. They also spoke about how the arrival of Indian films would be exciting for the Indians living in Japan and also the Japanese people. Kabir Khan, the director of Ek Tha Tiger spoke about the movie, where it was shot, etc.
Aashish Singh spoke about planning a shoot in Japan, for he was impressed with the places that he visited in Japan. He also spoke about the association between YRF and Nikkatsu, which is a 100 year old production house. He spoke about how the whole film fraternity was watching this move with interest. Akifumi Sugihara, Nikkatsu's head for International Operations also spoke regarding the production house's commitments to Yash Raj Films. This is certainly an interesting alliance and it also marks the universal popularity of Bollywood movies.
