Shahrukh Khan speaks up for women

The Badshah of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan shared his thoughts this International Women's Day, where he reiterated his stand on crimes against women and the need to respect women as he called the fairer sex superior to men.

International Women's Day, a day dedicated to celebrating a day a woman's strength, courage, intelligence, and more was celebrated worldwide on Friday with the focus this year particularly in India after the nationwide protest over rapes following the fatal sexual assault of the Delhi braveheart.

In his usual jocular manner, SRK said that he personally believes that women are superior to men, and in order for them to be equals, women would need to take a step down.

However, on a more serious note he said that, it's not just after the death, women should be acclaimed at every point for their achievements, commenting on the selection of Nirbhaya by the United States for an honour of bravery.

The 23-year old Delhi gangrape victim who died from the attack on her has been selected for the prestigious International Women of Courage Award, for inspiring people to combat against gender-based crime.

Michelle Obama, the first lady of the US along with the Secretary of State honoured her posthumously on Friday in Washington for breaking the culture of silence by rape victims and igniting a nation even when she was dying.

Shahrukh said, "It's good that they are honouring her. But I would not want to die to get an honour. I hope no one be it men or women should lose their lives to get an honour. They should be awarded for their achievements."

"I hope this incident will not be repeated. She fought with bravery and lost her life. I think women in every field and profession should be held high, ` he added.

In association with Tata Tea's Women First initiative he will be seen in the widespread commercial which aims to send a positive message, and brings change in the society.
