'Aashiqui 2' mints15 crores in the opening weekend

‘Aashiqui 2’ had got lukewarm response from the critics, but it did rather good business at the box office since its release. On the opening day, it picked up a business of about Rs. 5.75 crores and experts predicted that the movie will easily gross more than Rs. 15 crores in its first weekend. This has turned out to be true with sales picking up markedly during the first weekend.
The film is not related to the original Aashiqui that was released more than 20 years earlier. That film was a mediocre one, but its music remains some of the most popular compositions ever to come out of Bollywood. In that tradition, when Aashiqui 2 was announced by the T Series films and Vishesh films, there were a lot of expectations riding on it. The songs did not disappoint. Tum hi ho got 1852947 hits on YouTube within mere 10 days of its launch. Soon after, this film was released. The lead roles are played by Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor. The film which has been made on a budget of Rs. 12c crores have already grossed 15 crores in its opening weekend.
"The occupancy for the movie is 40 to 50 percent on an average. More of youngsters and college-going crowds are coming for the movie," said Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines.  "The movie can do better in the coming weeks. The release of 'Iron Man 3' can be a reason for the low occupancy," he added. The “Iron man 3” starring Robert Downey has been released at the same time. India is also busy following the intricacies of IPL. In that context, Aashiqui 2 have done rather well.
 Critic and trade analyst Taran Adardsh has been full of praise for the film. 'Aashiqui 2' has had a fantastic start. Though numbers still being compiled, it's one of the biggest starts for a film starring newcomers!" he tweeted. The film is reported to be doing especially well in the northern states including Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan. Adarsh further updated his tweet to say “Aashiqui 2 shows 10% - 15% growth on Saturday. Expect 20%+ jump on Sunday, as per trends. Looking at its low costs, this one's a Smash Hit!”
 The film is a romantic action movie directed by Mohit Suri. The lyrical laid back music is the greatest asset of the film and has already found a large following.
