'Ek Thi Daayan' gets an average response in its opening weekend and collects Rs 14.87 crore
The film did not open well nor did it see any growth in the collections over the weekend. On the other hand, the previous week's releases -- Commando and Nautanki Saala -- collected a decent amount during the weekdays with Commando inching ahead by over Rs 1 crore.
Ek Thi Daayan collected Rs 14.87 crore in its opening weekend with Friday being Rs 5.23 crore, Saturday (Rs 4.39 crore) and Sunday (Rs 5.25 crore). Meanwhile Commando closed on Rs 17.44 crore in its opening week and collected a further Rs 2.30 crore in its second weekend taking its first 10 days total to Rs 19.74 crore.
Nautanki Saala collected Rs 16.43 crore in its first week with Rs 2.25 crore in its second weekend taking its total to Rs 18.68 crore. Chashme Baddoor collected Rs 1.36 crore in its third weekend making its total reach Rs 39.40 crore.
Trade analyst Amod Mehra says, `The opening of Ek Thi Daayan was average and Saturday saw a 25 per cent drop. Sunday was also not as per expectations. The film failed due to the poor collections in the single screen theatres and it did not appeal the female audience. The promotions only appealed to the gentry audiences. People have not liked the climax and feel that the second half is not up to the mark.`
He adds, `The Indian Premier League matches are at its peak making viewers skip the theatres. The word-of-mouth publicity of the film has not been good. The film is just about average and looking at weekdays collections, we will be able to judge if it will make money or not.`
Trade analyst Atul Mohan says, `The producers might have made money but at the box office, it is average fare. Producer Vishal Bharadwaj, who is also the music director, failed to give one single hit number. This affected an Emraan Hashmi-starrer as his films are known to have at least one chartbuster. The reports are also average and it will not help the cause of the film.`
