Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak director Mansoor Khan is planning to have a reunion of the film’s cast and crew, says leading lady Juhi Chawla. “Is it really 25 years? I feel so young when I say this (laughs). Jokes aside, it is amazing that the film is still so fresh and alive.
The entire crew will be present at the screening this week. Sadly, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Nasir Hussainsaab and Goga Kapoor have left us.”
Meeting Aamir
She continues, “I met Aamir during my screen test. Since I had worked in Sultanat as well as Kannada and Tamil films, I thought I was a better actor. So, I behaved like a seasoned trouper on set. I had to speak like a girl from a Rajput dynasty. And I wasn’t conversant with Hindi. I had to speak in that ‘Hum yeh kerenge, hum woh kerenge.’ That lingo was alien to me. My hairdresser, makeup man, and designer used to wonder, ‘Yeh log kya banaa rahen hain?’
Happy ending
Juhi reveals, “We shot two endings for QSQT — a tragic one and a happy one. Did we all want a tragic ending for the lovers in the film? No one asked us. We just went by what we were told, though I suspect Aamir was consulted about the ending. I’ll be watching the film after 20 years. I am really looking forward to seeing it. My children haven’t seen QSQT.
Among my films, my children have only seen Bhootnath. I thought it was a children’s film, so they’d enjoy it. But they hated it. One yelled at me. The other cried. QSQT is the reason I am still here. It will always be special to me.”
