The Bollywood style love story of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor

Sridevi, the yesteryear actor who has bounced back in action with a bang is now giving the younger brigade a run for their money. Sridevi who started her Bollywood innings at a meager age of three has grown up in front of the camera.
The longest reigning Bollywood queen has been going stronger day by day, winning back her fans she left behind during her recess period of two long decades. The most influential actress has not just wowed the Hindi cinema audience but has also conquered the Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam cinema as well.
Married to producer Boney Kapoor for 17 years, Sridevi gave up Bollywood for family life with kids. "Her priority remains our children - Arjun (Kapoor), Anshula,Jhanvi and Khushi. She's seen that the family remains together. She goes an extra mile for that," says Boney to a magazine

Sridevi and Boney Kapoor’s love story has been a different one. Boney Kapoor was attracted towards Sridevi when he saw her opposite Kamal Haasan in Solva Saawan in 1979 and even kept the film’s print with himself. 

However, it took eight long years before the two could come together in 1987 for Mr India. The innocent beauty was unaware of what was in her destiny. In order to play safe, Boney Kapoor addressed her as ‘Sridevi’ unlike others who called her ‘Madam’ and ‘Sri’, just not to sound flirtatious. “Basically, Sri's an introvert. Her job done, she'd keep to herself. But what impressed me was her innocence. She was not corrupted by artifice. Mere dil ko who gherti chali gayee (I was drawn towards her),” said Boney to the Filmfare magazine in an interview 

Boney Kapoor was floored by Sridevi’s simplicity. The superstar used to roam around easily in a simple salwar-kameez without a dupatta, started wearing one after Boney Kapoor’s insistence. “You're a top star. When in public, you have to make a statement. You've got to carry a dupatta!,” Boney had told Sridevi 

Boney used to visit Sridevi’s house in Chennai and had come close to her family after initial differences. Sridevi had once visited Boney’s house with her mother who asked his mom, "Why don't you find someone like Boney for my daughter." 

The two then grew closer on the sets of ‘Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’. Boney Kapoor even lent his shoulder to Sridevi when her father passed away and accompanied her from airport to home when she arrived from abroad for the funeral. 

One fine day, Sridevi, her mother and Boney Kapoor decided to go for lunch. However, her mother suddenly fell sick and the two dined together. Boney proposed to her after the dinner but left her fuming and hurt. Sridevi didn’t talk to him for several months 

The serial Mumbai bomb blasts in 1993 brought the two together. Sridevi shifted to Boney Kapoor’s house for safety and lived there till the release of ‘Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja’. Boney was also a pillar of strength during Sridevi’s mom’s treatment abroad. 

Sridevi and Boney Kapoor secretly tied the knot on June 2, 1996 amid difficult circumstances as he was already married to Mona Kapoor but revealed their relationship six months later.
  

The two have now been married since 17 years and are blessed with two daughters Jhanvi (16) and Khushi (13). While the elder Jhanvi shares the likes of mom in fashion and healthy food habits, Boney Kapoor and Khushi are purely Punjabis by heart when it comes to food and other interests. 

The woman of substance Sridevi also makes sure to keep in touch with Arjun Kapoor and Anshula on regular basis.
