Mahie Gill follows Meena Kumari




For her upcoming movie ‘Gangs Of Ghosts’, actress Mahie Gill has taken inspiration from legendary actress Meena Kumari. For a song, Mahie had to emulate Meena Kumari. The actress watched a number of movies of the legendary actress in order to bring her acting to perfection. The song ‘Nahi Dungi, Nahi Dungi, Dil mera fokat mein nahi dungi’ is inspired by Meena Kumari.
“I am a huge Meena Kumari fan so it was a great honour for me to emulate her on screen. In no way could it be less than perfect for which I studied her in films like ‘Baiju Bawra’ and ‘Dil Ek Mandir’.” Mahie said in an interview.
Mahie also observed the styling of the song keenly.
‘Gangs Of Ghosts’ is a comedy movie directed by Satish Kaushik. He is one of the best comedians of Bollywood. He always wanted to make a comedy movie. He earlier directed ‘Milenge Milenge’. ‘Gangs Of Ghosts’ is the Hindi remake of Bengali movie 'Bhooter Bhobishyot'. The movie has all the ingredients which make a successful Bollywood movie. It has got romance, action, comedy, drama, songs and an item number as well. Satish Kaushik is also the dialogue director of this movie. Satish had also written the dialogue for 1983 released comic movie ‘Jane Bhi Do Yaaro’. The movie is recorded by Venus Records and Tapes Pvt Ltd. The lead casts of the movie are Anupam Kher, Mahie Gill, Meera Chopra, Chunkey Pandey and Saurabh Shukla.
Talking about Mahie’s song, director Satish Kaushik said that he wanted to give a hint of Meena Kumari’s look to Mahie.
“We wanted the song to have an old-world feel and fashioned Mahie’s look on the lines of great Meena Kumari. It has come out terrifically and Mahi has done a great job.” director Satish Kaushik said.
Mahie Gill was born as Rimpy Kaur Gill on 19th December, 1975 in Chandigarh. She began her career with Punjabi movies and got her first break in Bollywood in 2007 in ‘Khoya Khoya Chand’. She was not recognized. She got her first recognition from 2008 released movie ‘Dev D’. For this movie, she was awarded Filmfare’s critics award for the best actress. In 2011, she was nominated for the best actress for ‘Saheb Biwi aur Gangster’. Her upcoming movie is ‘Zanjeer’. Her onscreen name in this movie is ‘Mona’. Simultaneously she is also appearing in a number of Punjabi movies
