Story
A poor innocent village girl and a rich NRI boy fall in love with each other at a wedding. Parents of the NRI boy disapprove their relationship and insult the girl. The girl’s brother (who loves her like her daughter) makes a late entry and warns everybody who insulted her daughter (like sister) and finally leaves the venue.

Later the NRI boy leaves everything and decides to go to the girl’s village where her angry brother asks him to work in the fields and beat him in a bet. You might be wondering why are we mixing the stories of Salman Khan’s blockbuster Maine Pyar Kiya and Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya? But this is the plot of Prabhu Deva’s latest offering Ramaiya Vastavaiya.

The film, which marks the debut of Girish Kumar Taurani, has nothing to excite. In fact, it is an over the top love story that is not even easy to digest in 2013. Shruti Hassan is playing role of an oversweet, overprotected girl. Her character is so innocent in the film that she keeps a toy horse with her all the time that her brother gave her in childhood.

She makes Ram (Girish Kumar Taurani) fall for her with a dialogue, “Humare pass khet hai, bakri hai, gayen hai and sabse upar bahut pyar karne wala bhai hai (I have a cow, goat, farms and a caring brother).”  She says this when Ram’s friends are telling about billions in their bank account. This love story is for those who believe in fairy tales.

Girish Kumar Taurani’s character is a bit over the top and he doesn’t bring in the charm of Salman Khan despite taking inspiration from his blockbuster movies. There is still a long way to go for the debutant.

Shruti Hassan looks beautiful in the film, but it’s her acting that disappoints. However, she has improved from her last performances.

Sonu Sood, Vinod Khanna, Randhir Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon have lived up to the expectations. Ramaiya Vastavaiya fails to find a USP simply because there is nothing new in the film. Bollywood audience has seen such love stories several times in 1990s.

We recommend you to buy a DVD of Salman Khan’s Maine Pyar Kiya instead of going to cinema hall to watch Ramaiya Vastavaiya.
