'Aatma' breaking the stereotypes

Finally, there is a movie that breaks the stereotype of the typical ‘trying to scare you’ films. Welcome ‘Aatma’ on the scenes. The film stars Bipasha Basu and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead roles and Doyel Dhawan and Shernaz Pael in supporting roles. The story is about a mother who must fight the ghost of her daughter’s father to keep her safe.
Directed by Suparn Verma, the subject has been handled very maturely by him. He has not made a conventional horror film which is the least bit scary. There are a few surprises thrown in by him. It is definitely not like one of those normal horror films.
The story is made on a realistic note. It is a story about Maya (Bipasha Basu) and Abhay (Nawazuddin Siddique). After the death of Abhay, Maya begins her life afresh minus the physical abuse that she was subjected to for 7 years. As the movie progresses, it is known that even though he was an abusive husband, he is a doting and a possessive father. Their daughter, Nia (Doyel Dhawan) is extremely affectionate towards her father and that gets him to come back from the dead. He is hell bent on taking Nia with him to the world of dead, but what stops him is the mother and daughter bond that Maya and Nia share. Will he be successful in having things his way? We still have to wait to find out.
Director Suparn Verma has ensured that the audiences connect with the movie in a logical and emotional base. There are no loose ends in the movie, and all the ends have been molded very carefully. It may not be the best film in this genre, but it is definitely eye catching. In the first half of the movie, the scary bits are like an introduction to what more can be expected in the second half.  The thrilling scenes are set to give quite a chill to the audiences. This is one movie which will ensure that the audience does not even bat an eyelid during some of the thrilling scenes.
The climax is the highlight of this movie, and it definitely does not let down. The actors, Bipasha Basu stands out in the climax scene, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui essays his role like a pro. He looks absolutely real in his character. The child artist Doyel Dhawan looks promising. The songs and the background music complement the film very well.
