Alia Bhatt, the daughter of Mahesh Bhatt and Soni Razdan turned 20 today. This actress rose to popularity right from her first movie, ‘Student of The Year’. Her debut film came out when she was 19, and today this girl crossed her teens by growing a year older. Let us trace back some facts about this young and talented actress.
The name of her half sister is Pooja Bhatt. Pooja Bhatt is an actress-turned-director and had wished her all the luck before the release of Alia’s first film. There is also a very interesting fact. Although we know that ‘Student of The Year’ is regarded as Alia’a debut film, she appeared for the first time in front of the camera in 1999 in the film ‘Sangharsh’. In this film, Alia played the character for Preity Zinta’s childhood. The screenplay of this movie was written by Mahesh Bhatt himself. Her debut movie however, is still considered to be Karan Johar’s ‘Student of the Year’, which was greatly successful at the Box Office. In the film she shared the screen with other newcomers as well, like Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan and Kayoze Irani.
The immense fame that gripped the young actress after the release of her first movie resulted in Alia being seen on the cover of several magazines which included many leading fashion magazines. The chemistry that was seen between Alia and Siddharth Malhotra was critically appraised by film lovers. However, the actress had confided that she is not at all a trained actress and did not have formal training beforehand. This film was a great learning experience. She had to go through a huge make-over in order to bring out her glamorous look. She has also revealed that initially she was not fashion conscious. Her consciousness towards fashion and glamorous looks started after she had met Karan Johar.  
While her sister Pooja started her career at 17, Alia’s first major film came out when she was 19 years old. Although it is known that she is the kid of a star, she did not have her father’s help behind her for the first film. Currently, the actress is very busy shooting for her upcoming films. One is Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Highway’, where she will be seen acting opposite Randeep Hooda. The second film is an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s ‘2 States: The Story of my marriage’ where she will be acting with Arjun Kapoor.
