Domestic violence has remained a hushed up but undeniable fact of life and recent revelations show that even celebrities are not proof from it. After Aamir Khan aired an episode on this topic in his show “Satyamev Jayate” it has become a hotly discussed issue. But, just because you are rich and famous does not stop this domestic evil from invading your life. Here is a list of some of the most famous names in Bollywood who has become victims of domestic violence.
Aishwariya Rai
Yes! Even the Miss World was not proof against domestic violence during her relationship with Bollywood macho man Salman Khan. After she broke up with him, Aishwariya talked about Salman’s alcoholism and his abuse when he was drunk. Matters went so far as Aishwariya’s parents lodged a complaint with the police in 2000. “There were times when Salman got physical with me, luckily without leaving any marks. And I would go to work as if nothing had happened" said Aishwariya in an interview. In 2002, Salman even invaded the sets of ‘Chalte Chalte’ where Aishwariya was shooting and pushed the actress to the floor and destroyed the set. Though he denied the allegations of abuse against him, Aishwariya describes this period of her life as nightmarish and goes on to say, “Let others say what they want. But every person concerned knows the truth... God is the witness."

Going back to the earlier years of Bollywood, sexy actress Zeenat Aman was also a victim of the same problem. Zeenat entered in a relationship with Sanjay Khan who was married and who thrashed her so badly that she got a scar on her eye. Her doctor reported “Zeenat was in such a terrible state. Her face was covered with bruises and black eyes. There were blood clots in her eyes and her lips were severely cut.” Even after she recovered and went on to marry Mazhar Khan, she faced the same problem in her marriage.
Rucha Gujrati
Rucha Gujrati who debuted in Ekta Kapoor’s kkusum faced torture from her husband and in laws regularly to such an extent that she was even deprived of her meals and asked to pay her own expenses. She was married to businessman Mitul Sanghavi who used to beat her regularly.
Shweta Tiwari
