It has been 6 years now since this controversy has started and it refuses to die down any sooner. ‘Om Shanti Om’, directed by Farah Khan
He had even personally spoken to Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan at that time, and both of them pacified him by telling him that they would get the scenes off. Being a veteran actor, the two did not want to hurt his sentiments and they went over to meet him.
However, Farah Khan was in Tokyo recently for the release of her film ‘Om Shaanti Om’, there. At the screening of the film in Japan, the scenes were shown exactly like before. No editing had been done. Manoj Kumar has been really hurt since he forgave them the last time, and they did not respect it, and went ahead and showed the scenes again. This has deeply upset Manoj Kumar.
Manoj Kumar was quoted saying, “They also face contempt of court as in 2008 the court had asked them to forever and from all prints and broadcast material, delete those scenes. I would file civil and criminal proceedings against the producers (Shah Rukh Khan and Eros International) for seeking damages to the tune of Rs 100 crore for showing Om Shanti Om in Japan without removing objectionable scenes as ordered by Mumbai civil court in 2008.”
He will file a lawsuit on 1st April against Shah Rukh Khan and Eros International, producers of ‘Om Shaanti Om’. Eros International remained unavailable for comments.
Manoj Kumar was recently honored with the lifetime achievement award at the 5th edition of Nashik International Film Festival for his contribution to the Indian Cinema. Manoj Kumar has been known for his super hit films with the patriotic feel in them. ‘Upkar’, ‘Purab aur Paschim’, ‘Shor’ and ‘Kranti’ are some of his noteworthy films. He received an award of Rs. 1 lakh cash, a memento and a citation at the function.
