Sajid Khan’s ‘Himmatwala’ fails at the box-office

Sajid Khan

’s Himmatwala released last Friday. The film is a complete entertainer according to the director. The team undertook massive publicity campaigns and they promoted it on various platforms. Before the release, Sajid Khan had claimed that his film will cross the 100 crore mark. But the film has failed to perform as per expectations. On the first day, the film collected just Rs. 12.1 crore. On the second day, the film collected 8.5 crore and on Sunday it collected a total of 10.5 crore. Even at multiplexes, the business remained dull all through the weekend, even though at this time most of the examinations ended.
Sajid Khan’s previous films, ‘Heyy Baby’, ‘Houseful’, ‘Houseful 2’ did very good business at the box office, hence the result of this one comes as a surprise. His previous films reached the 100 crore mark in just a matter of few days, but this one failed to garner that response.
Being a remake of the 1983 hit film by the same name, this film stars Ajay Devgn and Tamannah in the lead roles. The film was marketed well, and Ajay Devgn and Sajid Khan appeared on various platforms for the promotion of their film.
This film was Sajid Khan and Ajay Devgn’s dream project. The Jeetendra and Sridevi starrer was a super hit during its time. The team retained two of the hit songs from the original movie, but apart from that, the music was not very successful.
UTV had given it a wide release across many theatres, yet the film failed to garner the expected response. This has not gone down too well with the makers. The film fails to live up to the standard of the old film by the same name.
The collections have been dropping and the overseas response has not been too great either. On Friday, the film collected £41,917 from the UK, A$ 25,142 from Australia, NZ $14,782 from New Zealand, and $71,100 from the US. On the second day, the collections were: £ 36,035 from the UK, A$ 17,763 from Australia and NZ$ 9,104 from New Zealand. It can be noted that the collections dropped on the second day even in the international markets.
The audiences as well as the critics have slammed the film. Ajay Devgn has not been accepted very kindly in this role. This can be seen with all the ‘Himmatwala’ jokes doing the rounds ever since the release of the film.
