IIFA: Some sweet memories of the past

The three day event of the International Indian Festival Awards (IIFA) every year leaves innumerable sweet memories. IIFA has been celebrating the success of Indian cinema since 2000 at exotic locations chosen from all over the world. Apart from the main award function, there are also other attractions of the IIFA event.
In 2007, IIFA was hosted in Yorkshire. There was ‘Idea IIFA Foundation Celebrity cricket match’ which was played by the celebrities. Asia’s cricketing biggies were joined with Indian film celebrities to play a match against UK celebrity cricket team. Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty did the formality of toss-up. Chunky Pandey and Boman Irani did commentary. Amitabh Bachchan who was the brand ambassador of IIFA said, “As always this year too the IIFA Awards will be held in the presence of global audiences including dignitaries from the world of cinema, business, politics and sports amongst others. The weekend spectacular, to be held in the picturesque locale of Yorkshire will include a host of exhilarating events like the IIFA World premiere film, IDEA IIFA Foundation Celebrity Cricket Match & the IDEA FICCI- IIFA Global Business Forum. I am in particular delighted about visiting the city of Yorkshire once again and the celebrity cricket match, which I definitely believe is going to be a clash of the titans. May the best team win.”
IIFA 2009 in Macau saw Amitabh Bachchan honing his amateur skills of photography as he clicked few lovely photos. Kabir Bedi was happy to play poker at the Venetican Casino. Javed Akhtar took a round of the city and explored the primeval structures. The celebrities performed at the main event of the evening.
IIFA 2011 saw Shahrukh Khan teaching audiences how to do a ‘dabangg’ dance of Salman Khan and ‘Kya Bolti Tu’ dance of Aamir Khan in Toronto. He also performed on few of his favorite numbers.  Asha Bhosle received life time achievement award for her 65 years of play back singing in the film industry. A tribute was paid to the ‘Charlie Chaplin’ of Bollywood, our very own Raj Kapoor.
IIFA 2012 was held in Singapore. Shahid Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar hosted the show. The ‘Shayari session’ by the hosts was hilarious. Bollywood divas rocked the stage with their scintillating performances. Bipasha performed on ‘o la la’ song of Vidya Balan from ‘Dirty Picture’. Ranbir Kapoor’s and Rishi Kapoor’s duo act was the highlight of the event
