NOTE pulls up Saif Ali for `smoking`

After actors Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Arshad Warsi, anti-tobacco watchdog National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) has pulled up Chote Nawab Saif Ali Khan for allegedly promoting smoking in his upcoming movie 'Go Goa Gone'.

NOTE in a letter issued at his Lokhandwala bungalow in Mumbai has said the movie poster showing cigar in Khan's mouth, has disrespected the caution.

`You are a well informed gentleman, and I need not mention to you that this action of their idol would be imitated by millions of your followers, eventually pushing most of them in the jaws of cancer and a premature, early death.

Unmindful of the imminent consequences, the youths would embrace this menace, just because they would want to imitate their icon,` NOTE General Secretary Shekhar Salkar has said in the letter.

`We also fail to comprehend the so called 'creativity` in this advertisements as in the trailor of the film which is released on the YouTube does not show you smoking Cigar, as such I just can't imagine how the advertisement board is shown to you as smoking Cigar.

This shows the intent of the Director, producers and you as supporters of smoking in public or it may at the behest of the tobacco company.`

A complaint in this regard has also been made to the Goa Deputy Inspector General of Police and North Goa Collector seeking to 'take necessary action on those responsible for the violation of the law'.

The letter has also said the display of a popular icon smoking a cigar is a violation of Section 5(1) of 'The Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003', which came into effect from 1 May 2004.

The film featuring Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu, Vir Das, Anand Tiwari and Puja Gupta is expected to release on May 10.
