IIFA 2000- 2012: A blast from the past




International Indian Film Awards (IIFA) is an event which is conducted every year to celebrate Indian cinema globally. It is an effort to put Indian cinema on global platform and showcase the talents in Indian cinema to the world. With this mission every year IIFA conducts a 3 days event which includes press conferences, parties and award ceremony to honor the best of Indian cinema. A number of fans gather at the venue to watch the event and lakhs of audiences from across the world watch the event on television. IIFA has taken place in London, Malaysia, Johannesburg, Singapore, Amsterdam, Dubai, Yorkshire, Thailand, Macau, Colombo, Toronto and Vancouver. This year the event will take place in Macau from 4th July to 6th July.
This year is special for IIFA. Since this year Indian cinema is celebrating 100 years of its existence, the flashback of the 100 years will appear on the stage of IIFA 2013. Many actors have prepared for their performance, showcasing cinema from yesteryears to the modern times. It is a big mile stone for Indian cinema and they will celebrate the same at IIFA 2013. A number of actors and actresses are performing. Abhishek Bachchan will perform in honor of his dad as Amitabh Bachchan will receive life time achievement award.
IIFA started in 2000 with London as the venue. For the awards, there was polling by the audiences across the globe.  The polling received overwhelming response. Apart from Bollywood actors, IIFA 2000, witnessed a host of celebrities from all over the world, like Angelina Jolie,  Jackie Chan, Kylie Minogue, Miranda Richardson, Sussanah York a, Talvin Singh and Ashok Amritraj among others. Sanjay Dutt won the award for the best actor and Aishwarys Rai won the best actress award.
In 2010, the event took place in Sri Lanka. Amitabh Bachchan was the brand ambassador. He said, “On behalf of IIFA, we are very happy to bring the IIFA experience to our hospitable neighbor, Sri Lanka. As a member of the film industry, I look forward to another luminous decade, as IIFA journeys forth, sharing the Indian cinematic movement with the world, and simultaneously share with the world, the emerald isle, Sri Lanka.” A number of actors performed in the event.
In 2011, IIFA took place in Canada.  Boman Irani and Riteish Deshmukh hosted the show with Shahrukh Khan. It witnessed mesmerizing performances by the glamorous divas of Bollywood like Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu and Kangana Ranaut. Ranveer Singh alongside Sonakshi Sinha. Deol sons, Bobby and Sunny Deol with father, Dharmendra also performed at the event.
