Jiah Khan's suicide: Sooraj Pancholi gets bail today

The Bombay High Court has granted bail to Sooraj Pancholi

Sooraj Pancholi today, Monday, 1^st July.  He has appealed to the high court for bail in connection to the Jiah Khan Suicide case.He was released on a surety of Rs 50,000 (around $845)."He has been let out on bail today. He had to pay 50,000 rupees," Pancholi's lawyer Zamir Khan told Reuters by telephone.

Earlier his case was heard by a sessions court which rejected his bail plea on account of him abetting Jiah to suicide. The sessions court argued that, “Jiah Khan was depressed after having an abortion, she was mentally and physically tortured by Sooraj Pancholi, which pushed her to commit suicide.”
Sooraj Pancholi is son of actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab. Last month, on 3^rd June actress Jiah Khan committed suicide. After few days of her suicide, her family handed over a six page letter to the police allegedly written by the actress. In that letter she had blamed her boyfriend of causing her physical and mental pain. She also talked about an abortion in the letter. She was having a relationship with Sooraj Pancholi for the past one year. Citing this as the reason, police arrested Sooraj and since then he is in judicial custody for interrogation.
Sooraj is currently kept in the Arthur Road prison in central Mumbai. According to Sooraj’s lawyers Ashok Mundergi and Shrikant Shivde, Sooraj is being falsely implicated in the case by Jiah’s family. They call Jiah’s letter as “after thought”. According to the lawyers, Jiah’s initial case was reported as “Accidental Death Report” by her family. Then after few days, they produced the letter allegedly written by Jiah. They also argue that the letter found from Jiah’s residence does not mention any name.
Sooraj will remain in the judicial custody till 11^th July as investigators believe that leaving Sooraj on bail would derail the investigation and might affect the final report as well.
When Jiah committed suicide, it was believed that the actress was depressed over her failing Bollywood career and could not bear the rejection. However, later her mother Rabiya called a conference at her residence and clarified that it was not the failing career but her souring relationship with Sooraj Pancholi which forced her to commit suicide.
Before this case, Sooraj was all set to make a debut in Bollywood as an actor opposite daughter of Suniel Shetty. Both were debuting together. Suniel is now looking for another actor with whom his daughter can make a debut.
