Well known filmmaker
Rituparno Ghosh passed away on Thursday morning when he suffered a
cardiac arrest. One of leading directors in Indian cinema, was just 49
years of age and was suffering from pancreatitis.
Rituparno Ghosh had made some of the highly acclaimed films like
Raincoat starring Aishwarya Rai, Chokher Bali and The Last Lear.
Ghosh was born on 31 August 1963 and was brought up in Kolkata. He
started his career in advertising and his directional debut was Hirer
Angti (The diamond ring). He got National film award for Best Director
for his Bengali film Abohoman.
His last release is Chitrangada based on Rabindra Nath Tagore
writing. In his career he worked on Hindi, Bangla and Oriya movies.
He has claim to more than a dozen of National Film Awards for his
films. His film Chokher Bali, based on a famous Rabindranath Tagore
story, starring Aishwarya Rai won the National Film Award for his Best
Feature Film in Bengali and was nominated for the Golden Leopard (Best
Film) award at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2003.
