“‘Yeh Jaawani Hai
Deewani’ is on a record-shattering spree. It has emerged as the biggest
opener of 2013 so far, the biggest opener of Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika
Padukone, the second biggest non-holiday opener, after ‘Dabangg 2’. The
film has fared exceptionally well at multiplexes and was very good at
single screens too. It has collected approx Rs 62.11 cr nett in its
opening weekend. Breakup:- Fri- Rs. 19.45 cr, Sat - Rs.20.16 cr, Sun-
Rs. 22.5 cr. Outstanding!,” informs trade expert and film critic Taran
Adarsh.
Very confident about
the entry of YJHD to make it in Rs. 100 crore club, film critic and
trade analyst Vinod Mirani asserts, “‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ has
worked havoc at the box office with a record-breaking opening day as
well as the opening weekend collections. Huge promotion built
expectations and the film managed to more than live up to them. Ranbir
Kapoor has created a solid fan following among youth and second time
writer-director, Ayan Mukherjee, helped keep his fans happy. And
extensive solo releases backed by enhanced admission rates, the film has
gone on to rake in a handsome Rs. 61.25 crore, as Saturday did better
over Friday and Sunday over Saturday. The practice of reducing admission
rates from Monday has been applied only at selected few outlets; this
coupled with steady Monday, the film looks set to touch the 100 crore
mark in real quick time.”
Totally in agreement
with Mirani, Joginder Tuteja, the trade pundit and film critic reveals
that With word of mouth ranging from above average to very good, the job
is done for the film because for a film of such scale and release, such
feedback is good enough to ensure a Rs. 100 crore result for the film.
‘Yeh Jaawani Hai
Deewani’ was always on the cards that the film would open huge and once
the film took an opening in the range of 60%-70% with premium
multiplexes in upwards of 80% (which was predicted in this column), it
was a given that there won’t be any stopping this Karan Johar produced
affair. As a result, to begin with as good as around Rs.19.45 crores
came in on Friday. Later, with Saturday and Sunday turning out to be
bumper as well, the weekend closed at a very healthy total of about Rs.
62.11 crores, he further adds.
Lastly, trade expert Amul
Mohan, from Super Cinema concludes on Twitter, “YJHD- fri - 19.50 cr,
sat - 20 cr, sun - 22.50 total 62 cr. Blockbuster. Highest opening
weekend ever. Biggest new star, Ranbir Kapoor (sic).”
