In an explosive disclosure Delhi police commissioner Neeraj Kumar has revealed that owner of Rajasthan Royals and husband of actress Shilpa Shetty has admitted placing bets on IPL games through bookie Umesh Goenka who was so far reported to be Raj's friend.
Yesterday Kundra was called by Delhi Police's special cell to have his version on the involvement of Rajasthan Royals players in the IPLgate scandal.
Kundra's named surfaced in this IPL scandal during the interrogation of Umesh Goenka who incidentally is the business partner of Kundra and use to remain in touch with Rajasthan Royals player in order to have information about strategy, team composition, pitch situation and even things like the possible winner of a match.
Earlier, the passport of Kundra was seized by the cops to prevent him from leaving the country till the IPL-fixing probe gets over. Kundra, who is a British national, has businesses in Dubai, Ukraine and Botswana and primarily shot to fame only after his second marriage to Shilpa.
Top cop from Delhi also added, that Kundra was primarily quizzed to know about the capacity in which Goenka interacted with the management on team strategy, asking players other questions; and about the "open parties his team players attended" with the bookies at the team hotel.
Shilpa and Rajasthan Royals may land in trouble
If reports from the sources to be believed then, "keeping in view the confessional statements of Raj" Delhi police is considering to record the statement of Shilpa Shetty as well because actress also co-owns team Rajasthan Royals.
After Chennai Super Kings' owner Gurunath Meiyappan, Raj is the second team owner who has landed in police dock his alleged involvement in the match fixing. It is also reported that if the charges against the Raj are proved, Board of Cricket Control in India may consider expelling team Rajathan Royals from the IPL.
