Not just Jiah, Zeenat Aman and Aishwarya were also physically abused

It is indeed a male dominated society and no matter how independent and modern a woman is, she directly or indirectly succumbs to the patriarchal society that invariably allows the male to have an upper hand, even when a couple's relationship is concerned, which not just demands equality but also nurtures it. 

Physical abuse in a relationship is not only a crime but also an expression of disrespect. We have often heard of domestic violence cases from people around us, but there have been cases where the superstars have been a victim to such an offence on many occasions.

Celeb lives are not all rosy for sure, and actresses from the film industry like Ash and Zeenat Aman to Television’s leading ladies including Shweta Tiwari, have all undergone this trauma.

We bring to you some of the episodes where celebs have come out in the media and reported about the physical and mental abuse they suffered in their relationships.

Aishwarya Rai & Salman Khan

A former beauty queen and one of the most gorgeous actresses from Bollywood Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been a victim to physical abuse as well. The actress took everybody by a storm when she came out in public post her split with Salman Khan. She reported that Salman’s alcoholism and infedility issues were the reason why she had to undergo his violent behavior. Aishwarya's parents also filed a police complaint against Salman Khan in the year 2002 for stalking, threatening and trying to forcefully enter Aishwarya’s house.

King Khan Shah Rukh once a good friend of Salman too was present at the incident where Salman barged on to Aishwarya’s sets and hits her. Aishwarya was later even replaced with Rani Mukherjee to avoid all such incidents. Aishwarya later told a leading daily “There were times when Salman got physical with me, luckily without leaving any marks. And I would go to work as if nothing had happened."

Kangana Ranaut & Aditya Pancholi

When Bollywood actress Kangna Ranaut first came to Mumbai, she was helped and shown the way by actor Aditya Pancholi. A short affair followed with the already married actor who was then charged of domestic violence by Kangna.

Zeenat Aman & Sanjay Khan
The actress scorched the ramp and made her way into the film industry with many difficulties. Her married life was nothing close to perfect. She ended her relationship with already married Sanjay Khan on a sour note, as he once bashed up Zeenat in front of his wife in hotel Taj. Zeenat went into a state of shock and had to constantly take anti-depressants. Zeenat married post her tumultuous affair, but her husband Mazhar Khan too came out to be an unfortunate relation. He hit Zeenat often, but passed away due to renal failure bringing about an end to their marriage.

Yukta Mookhey & Prince Tulli
Former Miss World Yukta Mookhey was also a victim of domestic violence when she filed a complaint against her husband Prince Tulli at a police station and accused her husband of beating her often.

Shweta Tiwary & Raja Chaudhary
TV actress Shweta Tiwari suffered an abusive marriage with actor Raja Chaudhary who hit her repeatedly and even threatened to kill their daughter! An alcoholic, Raja confessed to Shweta about his affair with another actress. The couple is now divorced.
