Rajasthan Royals owner Raj Kundra
Raj Kundra during police interrogation confessed that
he has bet on his own team through his business partner Umesh Goenka. The later
used to ask all the information of team form and pitches. Raj Kundra was questioned
by Delhi police for 11 long hours and during interrogation, he confessed to
betting on his own team. Delhi police has seized his passport to ensure that he
does not leave the country during investigations into the IPL spot-fixing
scandal.
Delhi police also discovered that
Raj has lost a lot of money on betting.
"He used to bet through Goenka, who is also a bookie," he said.
After Chennai Super Kings' owner Gurunath Meiyappan, Raj Kundra is the second IPL team owner who has been alleged of betting. If the charges against the team get proved, BCCI can dissolve both the IPL teams.
Police sources said they have taken away Kundra’s passport and have asked him not to leave the country.
A senior Delhi Police official had yesterday refused to specify whether Kundra is a "suspect or complainant", stating he was an "important person" needed for questioning.
Police sources claimed that Raj Kundra was into betting but he was not into fixing. Raj’s name came into picture when RR player Sidharth Trivedi informed that Umesh Goenka used to get information about the team’s performance and other details.
Chances are high that Raj Kundra may soon go under court arrest.
